Who's the bigger liability in coverage.. Keith Davis or Roy Williams?

I can't wait to see the answers to this question by some of the people on this board.

I thought about putting this as a poll... but I want to see REASONS why you came up with the answer you did.

This is an easy one, so nobody wastes too much time on this question.

Count on 1 hand how many plays Roy Williams made that you saw.

Now...

Count on 1 hand how many plays Keith Davis made that you saw.

Keith Davis is a pro bowl special teamer as soon as that's all he has to do is play ST's.

Can't happen soon enough.

Runs like the wind and hits like a truck on ST's.

Doesn't translate to FS yet and I don't think it will.

I'm with BP on this one.

I'd rather have him be great at ST's instead mediocre at FS and good on ST's.

Sign Dexter Jackson or Chris Hope and let's get it over with.

Both are equal, because all they want to do is come up and make the big hit, that is why they hurt us in coverage, they forget their first priority, defending against the pass. They are the last line of defense, so they need to be their incase the CBs get beat deep or the RBs break thru the DLine and the LBs.

Roy Williams is one of the top safetys in the game ....
Davis is one of the top STs players in the game....
Davis should not being starting for the Cowboys next season..
Roy Williams could be ALL PRO next season....

Did I answer the question...

Roy is better in coverage and I do not agree with the media's brainwashing that Roy cant cover... He is very good at his position...
Even Darren Woodson was beat sometimes....

I dont know our Cap situation so I have been pushing out very conservative upgrades to our roster next year.

Wouldnt shock me one bit if Keith Davis is your starting FS in 2006. It is painfully obvious Parcells is pretty squimish about the kid judging from all those FS tryouts at the begining of the year. This is Davis' first year starting at Free Safety and was bound to have some growing pains.

Personally, I think if you improve the play at Linebacker, the play of the secondary would increase.

But dang it, if only Rogers would have worked out....we could take Mike Huff or Landry this year. The way I see it, it will be extremely hard to pass on a Offensive Tackle this year, which I think we will do anyway : .

Undoubtably, Roy.

He is physically unable.

Keith just lacks some of the mental awareness which will diminish with time.

I'm going to say Roy W is better in coverage... KD is just a special teams demon. Roy did cover well in his rookie year... when he's playing shallow zone that's okay... prob is, the nickel LBs play shallow zone... So when the linebackers are playing zone, either Roy is blitzing, or playing deeper than the LBs... which usually spells trouble... Roy usually can't cover top flight WRs... Now... Roy will shine even more if we get a consistent pass rush next year... sign a proven OLB/DE, like Abraham things might change... Paying a guy like Abraham handsomely wouldn't hurt my feelings.

Now on the other hand... I'm going to compare Roy to Troy P from Pitt... Pitt has a madhouse pass rush, they've had the same defense since Cowher came aboard... that's 1992 and thirteen seasons of blitzing.... Pitt can afford to do whatever they like with Troy P because you have Joey Porter rushing the passer... Pitt can absolutely get after the QB, and with their blitzing, you never know where it's coming from... Dallas really isn't that deceptive with their own 3-4... So we'll give it a little time... say next year... hopefully.

Now does that equate to Dick LeBeau is a better DC than Zimmer? More experienced in the 3-4?? Absolutely... When you get either safety in a chase mode and you can contain the blitz... It doesn't matter about being able to cover when you're chasing a TE or nickel WR all the time... It's about disrupting the opposing offense's scheme to take advantage of the talent at hand...

Solution... rush the passer effectively and you get good looking zone coverage that usually works... rush the passer inconsistently and then you get into a chase mode because the QB is completing short intermediate passes with a spread out offense that forces your safeties into coverage.

Physically unable? 6'0" 226lbs runs a 4.53 in the 40...

Sure.. Keith Davis would be superb if he didn't make mental mistakes.. it would also help if he didnt get outrun by RON DAYNE!

No contest -- Roy is far better in coverage. Davis pretty much split time with Pile -- and still managed to get burned regularly.

Roy is actually pretty good coverage. He generally reads plays very well and has decent, but not great range.

Davis is a nightmare to watch in coverage, consistently getting fooled and burned. Pile is only slightly better. The only reason why they were able to keep the coverage liabilities of Pile&Davis in check is because of the quality CB play, Roy, and the improved pass rush.
