Who's the next guy we gotta get locked up?

I think if Gregory and Lawrence play like 10+ sack DE's we will let Hardy walk

I'm not sure about that. Marinelli loves him a deep rotation and Hardy can play any one of the 4 DL spots. He is a strong, natural pass rusher who has the quick hands of a much smaller guy.

Dallas has already shown they may go the inexpensive route at some positions (RB) but they have no problem spending big for pass rushers as long as they're young.

If Dallas has Gregory and Lawrence for a few more years on their rookie 2nd round contracts, spending big on Hardy won't be difficult on the DL.

Maybe I'm wrong... maybe I'm right... but that's what I think happens if all three play very well.

No offense, but thats not anywhere close to a given(not saying you said that). If they combine for 12-14 I would be fine with that. I think they can reach those 10+ each if everything goes right and I hope they do, but I'm not expecting those kinds of numbers from them just yet.

Thats why its an if. They could potentially combine for 20 sacks. They could also potentialy combine for 10

Crawford was the big one I was worried about getting locked up. Great job by FO! So who's next? I think the only core guys whose contracts will expire in two years are Travis Frederick and Terrance Williams. Not sure Williams counts as a guy we must keep, but Fred certainly does. In two years we'll have Carr's bad contract off the books, and very little dead money weighing us down. So by this time next year, here's hoping we get Fred locked up. The future is bright!

Hardy will be the only significant free agent after this season.

This will be Fred's 3rd season and they have a 5th year option on him so there is no big hurry there.

Leary is a restricted free agent after this season.

Claiborne will be a free agent, but he has a lot to prove between now and the end of the season. Even if he has a good season, I don't know that he is reliable enough for a significant contract.

Cornerback will have to be addressed next off-season.

Morris Claiborne is playing for a second NFL contract this season and Brandon Carr is playing to prove he is worth keeping next season, the final year of his contract ($9.1M base salary).

Orlando Scandrick will be returning from knee surgery next year and Byron Jones' long term home, CB or S, has not been determined at this time.

Corey White, the other CB/S tweener, is also scheduled for unrestricted free agency after this season.

Young pass rushers should always be the priority. Keep Hardy.

Before news broke about Tyrone Crawford's impending contract extension last Friday, I was beginning to wonder if the team might look at the possibility of moving Greg Hardy to under tackle next season.

We have two promising, young DEs playing on rookie contracts. Retaining Hardy as a DE next year means keeping Randy Gregory in a support role and possibly limiting his development.

The coaches can find a way to do that, but is it in the best interests of the team to go that route?

If Hardy is viewed as a keeper, the front office should start working on a long term extension right now There's no reason to pay Hardy akin to a franchise DE this season if he's in our big picture.

There are valid arguments for going either way.

I wanna see how the secondary holds up. While so many others are worried about the running game, I really am not. The back end of our defense is the weak link to this team and it's potential undoing imo. If you would have told me before training camp that Claiborne and Carr would be the starting corners I would have slapped your face and called you Sally. There is good depth to the unit but both the starting corners and safeties are a real concern for me.

I think Randall is the next guy to get locked up. You are talking about jail, right?

Joe Randle's last name is spelled "W-H-I-T-T-E-N", alternatively spelled "I-R-V-I-N-G" sometimes as well.

Corey White could be someone to look at if he plays like he did in preseason

If Hardy has a monster year, its not likely he resigns with the Cowboys unless he gives a discount to stay. I don't see that happening.

They should extend White now if possible. He would likely sign a cheap extension if there was any guaranteed money included.

I would be OK next year with:
Scandrick
Jones
Patmon
White
Rookie

There's at least 1 new misspelling every year.

Wilber not Wilbur is another one.

In an interview, Martin implied that Crawford was more difficult to block than Hardy in training camp.

Letting Hardy walk would be a mistake. We are lucky to have him. Gotta lock it up!
