Some of you all are really late to the party. I take you back to 2015. The Weeden/Matt Cassell year. Forget the fact we did not get wins. Forget the fact that we did not score points. For those of you who have forgotten....we could not even get 1st downs!
I do not have the stats in front of me. But I have never seen so many 3 and outs in my 35+ years of watching football. The way Garrett approached the those games while Romo was out sealed the deal for me. He coached as if he just didn't want to mess anything up while Romo was injured. He fully expected Romo to return and reel of 7+ straight wins to get us into the postseason.
We were essentially shut out yesterday. The fact that we put together some 1st downs is reason for optimism? /sarcasm
I repeat what a competent GM should already know. Garrett will NEVER win 3 games in a row in a postseason. The postseason represents the best teams and coaches...and Garrett will empty his tank trying to win 1. He is a college coach. Give him 100 5* players and he will be Nick Saban. But ask him to take inferior talent...put together a game plan....create a culture that has 3* talent believing they can win week in and week out...and is too much work for him. No one in the Cowboy front office really has too work that hard. They win before they even take the field. When you are worth more than any other sports franchise in the world...WITHOUT having to win...what pressure are you really under?
The refusal to employ any speed on this offense has gone on for so long...it is clearly intentional. They simply rely on the best running game in the NFL...hopefully get some play action pass off that...throw some jump balls in the redzone to Dez...and busted plays where Romo/Dak break the pocket and make something happen. Without the threat of the run game yesterday...you get what you got. Without any speed on offense, without the threat of any big plays in the passing game, without the threat of a consistent running game...you will play behind the chains. You will have to rely on 8+ plays scoring drives...and the personnel is to limited to accomplish that right now. An untimely holding, false start, stuff for no gain on 1st down...and the drive is doomed.
Like I always say...there is a very comfortable environment in Dallas. They have been able to build brand new everything...without having to win. The rest is just fantasy football. Understand what game is being played....then decide how to proceed with your fandom!
