Why are we always in the shotgun?

Ive shaken my head at this so much the past 5 plus years and I always forget to bring it up on here. I was watching NFL play book and Shaun Ohara asked the same question. What is Garrett's problem seriously? Teams KNOW 95 percent of the time it's a pass. Just like I said week 1, Dallas takes the joy out of watching football because they are so incompetent with basic strategy.

Ill be awaiting the first (go be a fan of another team) response.

I have alot of fun watching the cowboys. The Cowboys have used the shotgun alot prior to Red

It's not about using it alot. It's about using it at the wrong time. Like 2nd and 5 in the first quarter.

And what physical limitations does the offense have? I don't get that. We shouldn't be in shotgun unless its third and long or in a two minute drill.

the delay draw from shotgun always worked well for us. shotgun doesnt always mean pass

Again, most of the time it does. You really think out of ten shotgun plays well run more than twice? The delay draw does work, we just rarely do it.

Ill come back to this thread after Sunday. Ill count Dow many times we pass out of shotgun on first and second down as opposed to draw plays since some of you are acting like I'm making stuff up.

What do those stats have to do with when we use shotgun? Again 3rd and long it's expected. And some of those teams run spread offenses relying on quick passes. Does Dallas?

You said that because Dallas is always in shotgun that defenses know it is going to be a pass 95% of the time. Those stats I posted show that is clearly not true. They also show that Romo throws the ball out of shotgun around the same percentage as other QBs in the league this season.

You also changed your stance and said it isn't about the amount of times the team uses shotgun, but that they use it at the wrong time. You are all over the place in this thread. I can't figure out if you have a point or just want to complain.

the shotgun made a few appearances, most famously with Red Hickey with the 49ers and Tom Landry with the Cowboys. And in the 80s and later in the 90s teams as disparate as the Miami Dolphins with Marino, Purdue with Joe Tiller and Drew Brees, and the Hal Mumme Kentucky Wildcats (with the support of Mike Leach) set quite a number of passing records in the gun. But this modern revolution came about, I believe, because people had to see how you could throw and run from the shotgun.

If teams "KNOW 95% of the time it's a pass", how the hell did we have one of the best offenses in the league last year? How is our offense good if it's so predictable?

Btw, one can still have a man in the backfield, meaning threatening run. So just because other teams use shotgun the same percentage as the Cowboys, it doesn't necessitate they use it in the same manner or actually throw.

do you think maybe they will use shotgun more this year, especially early in the year, because of Romo's back? I mean the less he has to shuffle back the better i guess

I love seeing facts like this in response to a post. Not just that but a second good post as well.
