Why Cardale Jones Shouldn't Be the Forgotten Quarterback of the 2016 Class

Three starts, three wins, a national championship and a flirtation with the NFL draft; from Dec. 6 2014 through Jan. 12 2015, Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones became the most enigmatic NFL draft prospect in the country.

Between his dominating victory over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game and his eventual announcement that he’d be returning to school, NFL evaluators and media members wrestled with Jones’ NFL draft value.

After an erratic seven-game start to the 2015 season and a midseason benching, the 6’5, 250-pound passer slipped from Cam Newton comparisons to off-the-radar of those covering the draft. While Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch and Carson Wentz have risen, Jones has faded into “Day 3 consideration” talk.

But quarterbacks like Cardale Jones don’t come around often. His positive attitude, arm talent, athleticism and remarkable upside don’t lend themselves to being pushed aside. And despite recent project passers like Jones slipping to Day 3 (Logan Thomas and BrettHundley), he is a different, misunderstood NFL draft prospect.

Arm Talent vs. Overconfidence

a scary thought, Jerry may view him as a Cam Newton clone and take him with the 4th pick, much like the Quincy and McNabb comparison.

You erase that right now! You know this is where he get's most of his scouting knowledge since Ireland left!

Jones would be a total waste of a pick.

So I know he made the stupid tweet about athletes shouldn't have to go to class or whatever, but am I missing something else? Why is he a prospect not to touch?

Research his college play track. His ascent was only overshadowed by his meteoric fall. He was atrocious this season and reports were once he was named starter he stopped working. JT Barrett stepped in and that team immediately looked better. He's got even less tape than Wentz.

Yeah I get all that...the 1st few posts made it seem like he was a criminal or had drug problems or something. I just don't see how his bust rate is higher than any other QB you'll get in the 3rd-5th round range. At least Jones has tools that represent an upside, regardless of how likely you think he is to achieves it. I'd roll the dice on Jones before I took the likes of Hogan, Allen, Coker, Kessler, ect.

With all that said, I don't really want to draft him and definitely wouldn't with our 3rd or 4th

I wouldn't take him before day 3 of the draft. As high as we're drafting I wouldn't even take him in the 4th round. But I don't think he'll last til the 5th, so hopefully we won't have to worry about him.

Those tweets alone are enough for me to never want him on my roster. The stupidity it takes to say that should automatically disqualify him.

Well, all of the guys you listed have sustained levels of play against the highest levels of competition and exceedingly more film to study. Allen, Coker and Hogan also have all the physical tools. Kessler just has a noodle for an arm.

Honestly, I wouldn't be completely opposed to drafting Cardale Jones, but it would have to be in the late sixth or seventh for me. I actually like Allen and Hogan and would take them earlier.

Hogan and Allen have the ceiling of mediocre backups. That's a waste of a pick in my book. I'd rather take a boom or bust type than a guy I'm pretty certain is never going to be a good starter

Incredibly stupid...yet he cited getting his degree as one of the reasons he didn't go pro last year. If he was a dumb kid that wanted the easy way out we wouldn't be having this discussion right now would we? He'd be riding the bench already collecting an NFL paycheck. You'd never work a day in your life if you were judge by the stupid crap you post on this board alone risen.

He should have came out last year. I'd draft Braxton Miller and put him at QB before I would Jones.
