I just want the best speed rusher available and that might be Harris. Forget how well he can play the run, it's all about the speed rush

As good as these past prospects were in college however, don’t be surprised if by the end of the 2016 season we’re calling Charles Harris the best defensive end to come out of Missouri in recent years. Let’s break down why:

Over that eight-game stretch that began in the second game of the year, only Ohio State’s Joey Bosa and Oklahoma State’s Emmanuel Ogbah graded higher among 4-3 defensive ends. While he couldn’t match Ray and Golden when he was backing up Ray, as a full time starter his pass rushing productivity jumped to 12.6 — better than either of them could manage in their final seasons at Missouri.

What impresses the most about Harris is that for a player who has been a starter for just one year, he beats blockers in a variety of ways. Of the 37 sacks, hits and hurries he registered by beating a tight end, offensive tackle or guard last year, 19 were won outside, 14 inside, and four via a bull rush. On top of that, there were nine times where he used a spin move out of either an initial inside or outside move to beat his man, like he did in the play below against South Carolina left tackle Brandon Shell.

My question ,is Harris substantially better then the second round rusher talent ?
Is Jabrill Pepper's rating higher then Harris so that taking a DE in the second
would allow taking Peppers in the first.

I'm not sold on Peppers at this point.

His size (6-0, 210) is borderline at SS and I'm not sure how good he is in coverage. He just pushed around a lot in 2016 playing near the line and generally made plays jumping around blocks a opposed to playing off of them. He obviously has interesting athleticism because they used him a a punt returner and at times as a RB.

Surely would be nice to approach the defense as they did the offense -- get the DL in the best shape possible. But we'll have to see what shakes out and which, if any, of their first round graded guys slip. I know... you're thinking "Wow that's original! Genius!" Or maybe not.

Great lower body strength to finish speed to power moves and anchor against the run.
Good initial quickness and anticipation of the snap. Wins outright on inside and outside rushes.
Good initial hand placement and moves.
Good motor when he knows what to do.
Inconsistent balance. He will end up on the ground a lot.
Lack of upper body strength and counter moves leads to him struggling to get off blocks.
Poor awareness. Will stare down plays and do nothing. Let's plays right at him go.

Raw, young prospect with athleticism and some pass rush moves.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Carlton, Lawson, McKinnley, and Harris all go before #28. We may be looking at CB or WR when our number comes up.

I'd be okay with Harris at 28, but if all the DEs go I hope it at least pushes a top WR or CB down like Davis, Ross, or Lattimore, or Jones

I don't know that Harris is an elite pass rusher but don't think the odds of an elite pass rusher are very good at 28
That said if he can pressure the qb and get 8-10 sacks a year that's something that really helps the team
I think 28 is a tough spot because just pure talent I don't think de will be the most talented player at 28 but if it's close the de has to win out

Yeah, doubtful....still wouldn't be shocked.

I know Marchota seems to think there's a chance all those players will be gone. Teams are always looking for pass rushers...all things being equal, they are usually favored.

Regardless, we should get a good player. Wr , CB, Lb....In round 2-3 I like Basham and Rivers. Not a fan of the Nova kid.
Don't be surprised to see Basham, Rivers, or Kpassagnon rise up the charts to the top of the 2nd, bottom of the 1st. Those guys are for real.

And we're in need of a CB as well, i don't get why people think DL is more important.

Good stuff in this thread, thanks everyone!

Pass rush is the weakest area of the Cowboys.

With one they probably win the last 2 playoff games against GB.

Without one, they lost both.

Why do the pats win without this all world pass rush? If you noticed, in the second half the defense played great. What does that tell you? The 2014 loss was due to pass rush not this years loss. We were puttin pressure on Rodgers until we got scared again and rushed 3. Coaching coaching coaching

Is Harris the guy some here were criticizing as having no pass rush moves?
Harris is the one people were saying is a one trick pony. A speed rush only guy.

I been saying I would not want Harris.

We do not need a light weight sped rush guy. One move...speed, that will get knocked off his path to the QB. Will try to use his speed to take a long route to the Qb, only to "almost" get there...like so many of our "rushmen"....speed just doesn't always cut it...need a guy that can also have a bull rush, run them over push back the OL type of guy.

All I remember is hearing this about Anthony Spencer coming out as we drafted him...not so much his speed, as to how he gets to the QB. that was college, this is the NFL....pass on Harris...college game film or not...pass....

o_O....we have too many speed rushers that "almost" get there, why have another....
Kind of like the insurance commercial of the guy dangling a dollar in front of the lady...to save a buck....

These players he beat...where do they rank going in the draft? Just looking at the competition he went up against.
4 bull rushes...hmmmm, that's what I been saying, he can't bull rush, or not consistently enough IMO, and can't rely on the same results in the NFL as in NCAA.
Not buying the hype.
If we draft him, I hope I am wrong, and will pull for him, won't whine about it. Will give him his opportunity to prove why he was drafted at #28.
