Why Cowboys fans would love what Randy Gregory wants for his upcoming birthday

Cowboys defensive lineman Randy Gregory joined Ben and Skin on KRLD-FM 105.3 on Wednesday. Here are some highlights.

What can you tell us about your high-ankle sprain?

Randy Gregory: It's gets better day by day. I think I'd be exaggerating a little bit if I said that it was 100 percent. But I've always said that I'm fighting that mental battle right now that everyone kind of goes through with an injury kind of like mine. One of the main things, I'm practicing real well. It's only a matter of time before I can put that back out on the field the way I was early in the year. I fully expect myself to. I just gotta get going.

Have you seen any change in the team's spirit?

Randy Gregory: Not really, to be honest. I think we've had the same kind of mindset since Day 1. With the type of season we're having, it's real easy to put your head down. But I think, honestly, guys are really feeling optimistic about the year. Not just because we've got Tony back. But just because of how a lot of these games are finishing. We're not getting blown out. Coach Garrett always preaches about the little things, and the little things is what's killing us...

Always seems like a well spoken guy. He'll turn it around soon I'm sure. Hopefully he gets it in gear the last half of the season.

Another player saying the coaches have managed to keep the attitude in the locker room positive after 7 straight losses. That's kind of crazy when you think about it.

This is how you build a 7 game losing streak: Think small, don't risk the big plays positive or negative, maintain the same franchise QB behind center mindset as in week one, show no urgency and celebrate the close moral victories week in and week out.

Oh, that might be true if one were coaching a Pee Wee team and not mature men...

I see Gregory as coming up big in the next few games similar to the way Tank did last year. Well, that's predicated on if we can go on a run.

Hopefully Gregory can contribute to his birthday with 3 sacks, 1 being a strip sack for a TD return.

Yes, and why I'm not nearly as critical of Garrett as some. Players know when something isn't working, when all hope is lost because they have no faith in the guy leading them. That is clearly not the case here -- yes, Gregory is right, it's the little things that are killing this team. But the team is fighting every week. That's something.
