Why Didn't Phillips Let Folk try a long FG to end the game?

I know it isn't cool to run up the score, but why wouldn't Phillips let Folk try a long FG to end the game? I mean it is preseason, the purpose of which is to evaluate players, right? Grammtica hit a 47 yarder last night--one yard short of his long from last year--with room to spare. Shouldn't Folk have been given the chance to hit one from further out as well?

Not sure you want to run the score up. Take a knee and get out...preseason or not. He'll have other chances...I was hoping he was going to get a shot at the 47 yarder.

It's preseason, Dungy is a class act who is 1-9 in preseason games at INDY, kicking it wouldn't be running up the score, Dungy wouldn't perceive it as such.

When you have a kicking battle going on, you should give the rookie his turn especially since his turns to kick were a short FG and an extra point during the game.

I'd have liked to see him get the attempt and I think Dungy would have totally understood.

The decision on that PK roster spot is a big one with large implications for this year. The more data, the better.

This isn't like trying to decide who our 10th LB should be.

But I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.

It was Phillips call to make and he made what he felt was right, I don't care what Joe Buck would have done or not, he is not the coach. Phillips is and evidently chose to call it a night. As for the rookie we have more games and he will get more chances. If some want to make an issue about this fine I don’t see it as an issue at all.

Either way, you don't do things like that in the NFL. To me - it's a no-brainer. I don't care if they were at the 20 yard line.

I never quite understood the idea that the coach always knows best. Sometimes he is wrong. It isn't really that big of a deal I guess, but he should have given the rook a shot. This is not a minor position battle. The kicker has cost us too many games the last couple of years. That said, I wasn't impressed very much with Folk's kick offs. Grammatica was hitting them deeper it seemed.
