Why didn't We Resign Rico Dowdle?

4.6ypc over 235 carries isn’t just a guy, it’s good….especially when we had Rush in at QB most of the season. For what he signed in Carolina for, we should have signed him for 3 years at that same rate…combined with this revamped line and much better oline and offensive coaching, he would do well again here.
It is. 2 touchdowns is just a guy. Sucking in the red zone is just a guy. Im not trying to beat down Dowdle because he’s one of the better finds we’ve had but come on now. We’ve had Emmitt, Dorsett, etc. the standard in Dallas isn’t a 2 TD season while sucking in the redzone.

He wasn’t mid….had over 1k with a 4.6ypc and he did that avg on 235 carries, so it wasn’t some fluke like 4.6ypc on just like 34 carries…..he did it through a whole season.
4.6 yards isn’t what’s mid.
2 rushing touchdowns in a season is not only mid but pathetic.
Your longest run being 27 yards is mid.
In comparison….Sanders who sucked in Carolina has already had a 49 yard run and was slow as molasses.

As always, the Cowboys end up paying for their mistakes, like they did with not re-signing Rico. That might have been great if Rico were still there to be coupled with Lavonte Williams, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. The Dallas FO will forever look for what they deem as the cheapest way to conduct their business. Ultimately, it fails to work out, much to the dismay of their fans. Some things never change.
Rico wasn’t about being cheap. They tried to sign Rico. I for one wanted to move on. The standard in Dallas should be more than Rico Dowdle. These Rico Dowdles and Joseph Randle type guys. This is Dallas.

NFL teams haven't developed a scheme for Rico yet (2nd string). When that happens and he sees a real defense, then we can evaluate.

He was great yesterday. I was in favor of letting him walk this summer, although I did expect them to really address the running back position. Granted, Williams looked very good for the first 4 games. Yesterday is sort of what I was expecting from him this year. We will see if that was just one of those days or what we will see moving forward.

He's already seen 4 real D's. His first 4 games of the season he was 28/83, a 2.96 YPC.

Soooo, what happened?

MIA has the worst run D in the NFL, allowing 168 rushing yards/game. Dallas has the 4th worst run D in the NFL allowing 146 Yards/game.

Better based on what? When Dowdle got his chance last season he ran for over 1000 yards at 4.6 ypc
There's a real epidemic of people just saying things without any kind of logic or evidence to back it up.

4.6 yards per carry is good. I argued with several people last year who thought 3.1ypc Zeke was better. Common sense is no longer common.

It was inexplicable why they let him leave.

I had thought it was salary, but when I saw what he signed for, it was indeed stupid to let him leave. Of course, maybe he wanted out of this olio?

That's something that I hadn't read nor head yet. I'm not shocked to learn of it though. He's doing much better than he was earlier in his career, that's for sure. In any case, we should have signed someone better to accompany what we currently have.

Jerry & Son aren't about to pay much. I wouldn't be surprised if he's unable to continue his greatness. He's overdue for an injury. Williams was a real surprise, and Sanders was never expected to display anything special.

Yeah I heard it last night I guess he got 6 million? They didn’t think he was worth that much. I certainly wouldn’t have been opposed to him and Javonte…..this was before I knew Javonte still had something left.

I always liked Rico. Very solid all around back. He wasn't enough to carry the offense here so he got dogged by the cult because he was holding Dak back from greatness.

That said, he just destroyed two of the worst defenses in the league. So putting him in Canton may be a little premature. He was averaging about 3ypc prior to these last 2 games.

Hes a career backup who had a couple good games against bad defenses. Couldnt beat out Pollard or Zeke or even Hubbard. Everybody putting him in Canton because he gad a good game against us:rolleyes:

Guys, let's be real.

Put Javonte Williams on Carolina's offense yesterday against our defense and the result is the same. Rico has eaten the NFL's worst two defenses alive the past two weeks.

Yesterday was just another illustration of how garbage the Dallas defense is. Rico is Rico. A solid all around back; not prime Adrian Peterson.

Dallas figured they'd tire him out by letting him run free but that didn't end up working.
