Why do idiots try and take "Americas Team"

I would love for another team to take the nickname and just choke on it.

Well I'm too young for it to mean anything but I read about the old teams. I get why they went all in at the time for that. It was a great marketing tool. I can also see why Coach Landry would think it was total nonsense.

For those of you that say you wish it would go away, you don't care for it, or whatever...you all just don't get it...maybe somewhat understandable, if you didn't grow up with it. Or you are just one of those who want to take the high road...whatever....after a few more SB wins soon, then maybe you'll understand better...

Take pride in it, not be embarressed...

You can find many Cowboys fans in any state. Cowboys Nation is strong, even after the lackluster performances of the last decade +. That's what the name means to me.

Yea I've read that several times in different books. I think Coach Landry said it just made it harder on the players.

But marketing wise it was clever to hook up to that once that film came out.

...but doesn't that moniker imply a certain level of excellence? And if it's been absent for more than a few years, would that make the Cowboys vulnerable if they keep calliing themselves America's Team?

even with our long break from success...we still hold many records that other teams havent caught

America's Team is a part of Cowboys lore just like the star itself. It is a part of the Dallas Cowboys brand. Would anyone consider letting someone else wear the star because the Cowboys haven't been good for a while? Of course not. So why be ashamed of or concede the nickname? Is Green Bay really Title Town? Hell, they only have one team in one sport. Were the Vikings really Purple People Eaters? Was there really a Steel Curtain? Were the Bears really Monsters of the Midway? The answer to all of these questions is no. These are all nicknames associated with various teams and no one would ever think to apply these names to different franchises. So why consider giving the Cowboys nickname away or wanting it to go away? America's Team is the Dallas Cowboys. While those other nicknames mentioned above have basically come and gone, the Cowboys are still America's Team, which says a lot about the organization and both its fans and haters alike. Be proud of our moniker. Let the haters hate. Embrace it.

Great post.
Reminds me when the Giants are referred to as The NY FOOTBALL Giants....now a long time ago, that was understood, when the baseball Giants team was there...but yet all these years later, they are referred to as The NY FOOTBALL Giants by Al Michaels, Chris Berman and others...and I'm ok with that.
If someone wants to call a new defense of the Steelers, Iron Curtain II, then so bet it, but don't let another team use it. Not that they couldn't, but it wouldn't be the same.

Like the Atlanta Braves started using America's Team moniker, but can't remember what year, but I don't think it really stuck. Not sure, I don't follow that. It's just not the same for any team in any sport.
America's Team will always be associated with the Dallas Cowboys, and that will never change.

And you guys wonder why sites like PFT run stories about declining attendance figures at Cowboys' training camp lol...

lol
Running in stealth mode for now...under the radar, and that's cool....let them pay attention to the Browns, and media favorites the Patriots, the defending champs, Seahawks.
Let them run their RG3 stories and Chip Kelley's offense....we will be fine....

What else would it be? I don't begrudge anyone their HTTR and fight song, or their WHO DAT NATION, or their 12th Man, or their whatever. The only reason I can think of for someone crying about the America's Team moniker is because they wish their team had it. It's just a dumb nickname the team didn't even want, but people sure do get upset about it.

No, I don't mean the whole "America's Team" angle...that should remain with the Cowboys. I was only talking about articles about declining attendance at training camp (or declining attendance/sales in connection with the Cowboys in general).

And I guarantee you that "jealousy" has nothing whatsoever to do with the whole "Cowboys no longer America's Team" angle you see popping up every offseason.

And the simple fact we were not the ones who even came up with this nickname. And most fans do not refer to the Cowboys as this title.

The Cowboys do not have a copyright on the term "America's Team".
If any other team wants to claim it,then have at it.
I could care less.
Its not a self imposed nick name anyway. Steve Sabol from NFL Films gave it to them.
