America's Team is a part of Cowboys lore just like the star itself. It is a part of the Dallas Cowboys brand. Would anyone consider letting someone else wear the star because the Cowboys haven't been good for a while? Of course not. So why be ashamed of or concede the nickname? Is Green Bay really Title Town? Hell, they only have one team in one sport. Were the Vikings really Purple People Eaters? Was there really a Steel Curtain? Were the Bears really Monsters of the Midway? The answer to all of these questions is no. These are all nicknames associated with various teams and no one would ever think to apply these names to different franchises. So why consider giving the Cowboys nickname away or wanting it to go away? America's Team is the Dallas Cowboys. While those other nicknames mentioned above have basically come and gone, the Cowboys are still America's Team, which says a lot about the organization and both its fans and haters alike. Be proud of our moniker. Let the haters hate. Embrace it.
Great post.
Reminds me when the Giants are referred to as The NY FOOTBALL Giants....now a long time ago, that was understood, when the baseball Giants team was there...but yet all these years later, they are referred to as The NY FOOTBALL Giants by Al Michaels, Chris Berman and others...and I'm ok with that.
If someone wants to call a new defense of the Steelers, Iron Curtain II, then so bet it, but don't let another team use it. Not that they couldn't, but it wouldn't be the same.
Like the Atlanta Braves started using America's Team moniker, but can't remember what year, but I don't think it really stuck. Not sure, I don't follow that. It's just not the same for any team in any sport.
America's Team will always be associated with the Dallas Cowboys, and that will never change.
