Why do we continue to enable these headcases?

Pacman turned his life around starting here.
Sure, in Cincinnati. I believe he was cut here because it didn't work out.

There were other headcases too like Haley, Irvin, and Lett. How about them?

They had strong leadership to help them focus on football.

Well, its like this. Jerry, Stephen and Jason are going to have to decide if RO's play outweighs the trouble he brings. As of now, he's not going to be able to play the majority of the season and he's done this before so he's probably skating on thin ice. He'll probably be cut. Now if it was a skill position, lights out player, they would work with him and look the other way and try to justify their decision. In short, if your a great player you have a longer leash, if not, your gone. I think Ro's gone and probably from football altogether....

Pacman wasn't cut. His contract expired. He had no legal trouble while here. IOW improvement started here.

Jerry and Garrett were there too during the 90s. Haley and Irvin were both 'leaders.'

On January 7, 2009, the Cowboys announced they would release Jones. According to ESPN's Ed Werder, the move came after Cowboys officials learned that Jones was a suspect in a June 2007 shooting outside a strip club in Atlanta; Jones was alleged to have ordered the shooting after a dispute with one of the men. Due to NFL rules which bar major player transactions until after the Super Bowl, the Cowboys did not officially cut ties with Jones until February 9, 2009.

He spent the next year in the CFL.

His "comeback" happened the next year in Cincinnati.

That says nothing of his comeback in either case. I meant he stopped gangbanging.

He was a suspect in the Atlanta shooting as of 2007 before the Cowboys:

Oct. 22, 2007: Marciell Easterling, an admitted member of the Atlanta-based gang known as the International Robbing Crew, provides a lengthy statement to investigators who are trying to solve a string of Atlanta-area murders. Easterling unexpectedly mentions the Club Blaze incident on June 18, telling investigators that Jones was at Club Blaze with Easterling's fellow gang member, Edward "Slugga" Morris and other members of the IRC. Easterling says Jones asked, and agreed to pay, Morris to shoot a man Jones had exchanged words with inside the club.

Glad to see you dropped the rest of your argument.

I thought this the perfect thread to say we now need to sign Hardy. He could, possibly, maybe, potentially help fill this talent gap we now face with 3 dfense starters out. That is if the risk of him keeping his head on straight pays off.

Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple declined to comment on the team's decision and said owner Jerry Jones was unavailable. Coach Wade Phillips and linebacker Greg Ellis, who is the team's representative to the players' union, did not immediately return messages left by The Associated Press.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league would not comment on the ESPN report or the Cowboys' release of Jones.

"We do not comment on player transactions by our teams. And we have no other comment to offer on this matter," Aiello said Thursday.

From the article.

and if that's good enough for him, he's even sadder than I think he is.

I would think the GM's of today' team would like to go back to the Super Bowl and have an actual plan for trying to accomplish that. I'm sure Bill Belichick is perfectly content with pass success.

I never said he is content with past success. He actually appears to want to win desperately.

But you started talking legacy. Which is a foolish errand. There probably isn't a single person who has done more for the game than Jerry has. Certainly no one who never played at a high level.

We bring them into a cushy environment, gice em plenty of money, and let them do whatever the hell they want. Then everyone in the front office gets all surprised when these dudes get popped. This is getting so old. Why do we continue to draft these fringe idiots? I wish there weren't rules against it because I would cut all three right now.

Because people keep showing up and buying tickets to games. I don't think Jerry's alone in thinking that if you put a winner on the field, the fans will largely ignore the players' character. Is he wrong?

This is a case of Jerry trying to hit a home run... Problem. Is he is weilding a waffle ball bat and swinging at a softball.

He thinks the lack of a big contract is worth the risk. However when you start relying on a guy to be a starter and it reflects in how you address the roster.... When that gamble does not pay off it hurts the team more than he initially thought it might.

This.

Yeah I hear you. I was one of those that loved the value we got in him but he has to go. Get out. If they don't cut him pronto, they're proving just how little they care about winning.

Yep. I knew we couldn't count on him. I love the Smith pick, but Jack might have been wiser. They threw the dice with McClain and got snake eyes.
