Why do we have trouble with the blitz?

I don't understand how you can have defenders coming untouched? I know we made some adjustments that helped but you would think with our line that wouldn't happen. It almost like the players are missing their assignments. They bring two guys that go untouched and Romo goes down and we are in a 3rd and long situation. Is Romo not noticing this pre snap? Who's at fault here? Sorry if this is a duplicate post.

There was one blitz where both tackles messed up. This was the double a bail blitz where it really wasn't a blitz at all, but a disguise. I think Fred may own this one on the line call, but it was just a mental error.

A lot of the other blitzes they brought more than we could block and Romo couldn't react. On one of them, it was play action and his head was turned away.

Not to mention that their DL is scary when just 4 rush. Send even more and it's daaaaangerous.

Finally - detroit is not a blitzing team AT ALL. They seldom do it, so we likely were not prepared. That's why an adjustment later in the game.

when they send so many, i don't understand why romo doesn't throw a quick pass short.

however, sometimes the rb misses a block. i saw randle or dunbar go up the middle for a dump-off, while ignoring the free rusher to the left. murray was back in the next play.

also, there were times when romo could have run up the field for good yardage, but he got sacked instead because he kept trying to find a spot to set up and throw. i kept yelling at the tv, "throw it away!" or, "just run straight ahead!"

...of course, it's easy for me to say that.

See my thread about a quick review of some offensive issues. My of it was due to Romo holding the ball too long. They have to have better outlets for him to dump off the ball when the blitz is coming.

You have to have a short pass route in place before you can throw one.

BTW, later in the year, teams slowed down with the blitz' because they were getting burned too much.

Detroit just surprised us. We adjusted and they backed off.
