We all know Jerry is very loyal to his players, but he is also a businessman that has moved on from Cowboy greats in the past, such as, Troy, Emmitt, Ware etc. Why do you suppose he loves Tony so much? Is it a ploy to drive the price up, is it because Tony has been a lightning rod the last 10 years and has taken the pressure of Jerry as the team's scapegoat, or is there a true relationship there? Any opinions?

I always thought it was because romo was a UDFA that panned out very well around a time we had a major hole at qb. Especially after a time where we couldn't land a quarterback after aikman. I know we all don't need to remember the Quincy, Henson, leaf, testaverde, Bledsoe, etc. days

This is pure speculation on my part.

The whole drunken "Romo was a murakill" rant pretty much told the story for me. He was pretty proud of that.

I am sure I read somewhere that Romo is also Stephens son's godfather. Not sure if it is true or not

you said it right there in your OP, he's a businessman. it's nothing personal when it comes to business (at least it shouldn't be)

Jerry will do whatever he thinks is the most wise decision to help the organization. I will add though, in my opinion, Jerry places a hell of a lot more value in Romo than most folks on here (i.e. he's not going to let him go to another team for nothing in return)..

Businessmen get attached to good employees. You appreciate all that they have done for your business, how they have approached their job, their presence in the office, etc. And in this case, when you feel like they still could be an asset to the business, you have some trepidation/reluctance to let them go unless you are going to get a good return on your investment.

I don't know how deep the personal relationship is, but the professional relationship is strong because Romo is still an asset. If Jerry felt Romo couldn't play anymore then he'd do like he did with Troy, Emmitt, etc., and express his appreciation while letting him walk out the door. Because he feels Romo can still play, he believes he has value.

Jones has had similar situations where he has allowed his personal affinity for certain players to supersede smart business sense.

This is nothing new.

Yes, Jerry has allowed his "personal affinity" for certain players influence his decision-making as related to the team but he has yet to act upon it (his affinity for Romo) with Tony. We shall see....

Jerry is loyal to Romo because he kept the Cowboys relevant, competitive and top revenue team while Jerry was at the height of his meddling battling the media and fans over continuing to be GM without more team success.

Romo basically allowed Jerry to continue his ways. Otherwise the Cowboys might have hit rock bottom and forced Jerry's hand to step down as GM.

This,,and the simple fact that when it's nut cracking time(during the regular season) that cat is fun to watch( Romo- dini, anyone?) And he's a pretty good passer also.

You hit on it. Jerry is extremely loyal and loves all his players.

I agree but this has led to the bad contracts of MB3, Miles Austin, Ratliff, Crawford ect. But things have changed recently. Guess Jerry has let others run things.

Because many of us continued to watch the Cowboys because he was our QB and we felt we could be in any game ...

JJ is a businessman first and foremost and when he has an " asset" that helps his business he is loyal to that person (asset ), and rewards them...
