Why Does Romo Get a Free Pass?

forgive me for rehashing something that has been stated on this site, but im just curious why so many people in the media and elsewhere scapegoat other players and give Romo a free pass.

Everyone wants to blame a WR, because he is a "diva". Big deal. All Owens wants to do is win. If the Cowboys had more players as competitive as Owens, they would be in much better shape. The guy played in the superbowl with a broken leg for chrisssake (while Romo sat out three weeks with a bad pinkie)

There is obviously plenty of blame to go around, but Romo's hully gully attitude on the field and off of it is the biggest reason for the choking down the stretch the past few seasons. Yes, I know it took some other all-star QBs time. Sure Romo can turn it around...but im talking about right now, Romo is not getting it done. The QB for the Cowboys needs to be accountable.

I dont give a crap about his season stats. His stats are better than Aikman's but Romo is not in the same league as Aikman. Romo is the anti-Aikman. Troy was an efficient machine, while Romo is hully gully. Troy was competitive and accountable, while Romo does not project such an attitude.

Like I said, Romo can turn it around, but right now he is fool's gold. The Cowboys will not win a superbowl with him as a franchise QB unless he becomes a leader.

and yes, Jason Garrett is probably one of the worst offensive coordinators in the league. He loses most chess matches that he gets in with defensive coordinators...but that doesnt excuse Romo's performance as the "franchise QB"

because our O-line protection sucks balls and he can't do everything himself and the playcalling is garbage

it also describes T.O.'s attitude and "leadership" towards teammates after we lose a game.

The only people who think Romo gets a free pass are the disciples of the Cult of TO who try to create a strawman to divert attention away from their savior.

thanks for proving my point

I wish we had more players that hated to lose, especially at the QB position.

Believe me, Romo is on the hot seat this year. A repeat performance, and we'll be looking to draft a QB as high as possible.

His demeanor doesn't really have anything to do with on the field play. I like to just focus on that part, the on the field stuff is the deciding factor in wins and losses.

Have you even been reading here much? There are plenty of posts criticizing Romo.

it's mainly in the media, and many of the folks that follow everything they hear in the media like it's always truth.

I just came here to get reasons why. I might be off base, but Im simply giving my 2 cents as to what I see. Folks can have change back on my 2 cents if they want

do you think my criticisms are unfair? Romo is a very talented player, so people should expect more from him as the "franchise QB". His career is still young, so he can turn it around. Hopefully, he will head Parcells' advise about being a "celebrity QB". You win FIRST, and then you can act like Tom Brady...Romo should use Aikman as an example of how to do things right.

Owens has problems, sure (wide receiver syndrome, among others)...but all of the talk about cutting the guy makes absolutely no sense to me. The bottom line is that he's a dang good football player that cares and wants to win.

do people want to build a boy scout troop or do they want to win games? It's football

I do think his demeanor affects his play. The "oh well" attitude gives away the fact that Romo isn't passionate or hungry enough. I hope that can change because like you point out, if Romo repeats another bad December then the team is forced to start looking at other options.

Not me....!

Romo needs to grow up, get the job done, or hit the freaking road with Jessica...and I mean that. Romo is not the team...he needs to do his thing too!

I don't think it has anything to do with finding an opened receiver, or checking off on a blitz, or throwing it accurately.. Those things come from hard work, studying and being well prepared.

I don't think your criticisms are necessarily unfair. But the premise of your original post was "why does Romo get a free pass? He hasn't got a free pass either here or in the press.

we disagree there

I dont know about this site, but if he wasnt getting a free pass for the most part, there wouldnt be so many folks talking about outright cutting Owens.

Folks wouldnt be deflecting and saying it's mainly the "locker room problems" that are causing this team to underperform...and of course, Romo couldnt possibly be part of any "locker room problems" right. The franchise QB is a victim. All of the "locker room problems" are causing him to underperform [/sarcasm}

Romo threw 14 INTs, had 13 fumbles (7 lost) in a 13 games.

He gets criticised. And deservingly so.

I've seen posts blaming Tony Turnover, Da Snitch, and Cancer this offseason. People have a variety of opinions on whom to blame.
