Why does Vandy hit those 40+ yarders with ease...

But once he gets into chip shot range, it's like Russian roulette? It HAS to be a mental thing at this point

I think he loses focuses with the easy ones. On the hard kicks, he concentrates at the task at hand.

I'm really not too worried about Vanderjagt.

Had he missed the 40-yarder, I would be. But he bounced back from the previously attrocious attempt.

Also, I would imagine it's much easier to correct one's inability to make a 26-yarder than it is 40-plus ones.

Don't jinx him on the 40+ yarders by asking why. Just be glad he hits those.

He seems to have problems pushing it from right to left.... straight or from the left hash mark he's fine... but as soon as he gets on that right has mark it's worry time...

Is that a reverse psychology thingy?

It really wasn't an awful kick like he had in the Vikings game. Those kicks were just HORRIBLY wide right. Today's miss, he was lined up on the right hash mark and hit the right upright... he kicked it straight on. He just needed a little more angle to the left and it was fine.

I know it shouldn't have any affect on him, but, when I kicked in high school, there was always something about kicking from the hash marks that just made me a little uneasy. You have to change your position in reference to the ball (without changing your kicking motion) in order to angle the ball off to the left or right. Also, the NFL hash marks are WAY closer than high school hash marks are, so that's even more reason why it shouldnt be such a factor for him.

That was only his third miss in his career under 30 yards. His last miss under 30 was 2002.

It wasn't a bad miss, we're talking about 5 inches. A miss is a miss but I'm not that worried.

Wasn't he kicking from the right hash? And didn't he miss by about a foot? And hasn't he drilled two dep kicks about as perfect as it gets? He's still not a concern for me yet.

i thought he hit the post, so just a couple more inches and it would have been in

well, if mostly good kicks with a sprinkling of easy misses makes us happy, then why the heck didn't we keep Cundiff or Cortez?... 'least they can kick off

If we get to the 5 yard line, but the drive stalls, we need to have a few "Accidental" false starts so the kick will be a 40+ yarder instead of a 20-25 yarder.

The whole unfolding of the play on that miss also seemed rushed, did anyone else notice that? It also seemed like someone came unblocked from Vanderjagt's left and nearly blocked it.
