Why doesn’t Dallas do what the Rams did?

They have the best interior D line in football. A young QB, a great RB very good WRs. D looks very good. They didn't just whip up a vince young like dream team and assemble a mishmash of random guys. This is a real football team along with a quality coach. Rams are setup very nicely. Pretty soon you'll be saying it's just 8 games, it's just 1 playoff game? lol Meanwhile in Dallas… we'll see how they look tonight, but this is a very different team and atmosphere.
They also have the 3rd ranked OL in the NFL. 3 of 5 drafted.

We overspent in free agency for years. Obviously some people are too young to remember.
We did.

Now, when Tuna was here to direct that spending, we ended up w/ a great OL and DL and that led to a 13-3 record in 07. Then, Jerry took over and proceeded to tear it down, culminating in the stoooopidest draft like ever, the 09 draft.

This off season, the Rams signed Suh, Marcus Peters, and Talib in free agency
Guess what? It’s working..........

It seems their roster/team building strategy is light years ahead of ours.

:dance::dance::dance:

There are NFL fans out there right now who are disappointed with their team’s start to the 2018 offseason. Whether it was talent lost, talent gained, or the contractual implications that ultimately impact the organization for this year and beyond, there is undoubtedly an entire fan base out there that is not satiated. They wanted more for, or from, their team.

But that is not the case for Los Angeles Rams’ fans, where there’s more excitement than downtime.

Players are being traded, picks are being shuffled, pro bowl players are being acquired, atrocious contracts are being discarded or reworked, and they are already on the books for compensatory picks in 2019. It seems as though every day in March a Rams’ fan could wake up and just feel the excitement.

Goodbye Robert Quinn, Alec Ogletree, and Trumaine Johnson. No love lost, and best of luck to you in your new homes. But hello Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib, Sam Shields, and Ndamukong Suh.

Consider it addition by subtraction. And what the Rams have added this offseason isn’t something they’re hoping to build upon for a future run deep into the postseason. It’s predicated on a Super Bowl run in 2018.

Loci, moves like that would entail having a competent GM.

First off, they have a real head coach that turned around the team. 2nd they have a real GM that hasn't mismanaged the salary cap.
Very reasonable response. We have lots of caps space though. Why doesn't Will McClay got get some free agents

Why don’t the Cowboys do what the Rams did?

Because Kroenke is smart enough to know his place, counting his money and building his real estate empire. He is also smart enough to leave football operations to professionals who have paid their dues.

we don't have success with free agents because we don't have football people in the right place. for example, we don't have a real gm. The gm position is some weird hybrid of mcclay and stephen jones. I'm guessing mcclay is mostly the draft guy and is occasionally told to go sift through the garbage bins for 'bargains'.

Then at the coaching position, we already know what's going on there. How can you even really be a GM when you can't change coaches if the coach fails?

Ok I'm trying to figure out McClays place in this organization. Sometimes peeps give him all the credit and other times they say he has nothing to do with it.

Good post. Diff perspective but that's what we need need.

And that points toward the problem. It's a clusterfudge. No one really knows. I'm not sure they themselves even know!!!
