The bye week is good for teams.
The bye week only benefits those teams that sustain injuries
before the layoff and do not incur significant injuries
after the layoff. Case in point: some are overjoyed that we have an early bye week because it will allow Owens to recover longer before the Titans' game. But what will happen if he (or any other player for that matter) were to sustain another injury later in the season? The bye week won't be a factor if that were to happen.
Some argue that the bye week allows teams to rest it's players. That's true, so let's look closely at how the bye week works.
Our team has two games under its belt. It will rest its players and then play a minimum of 14 straight games before any 'relief' (by hopefully avoiding the wild card round) may be taken advantage of.
Let's flip the coin. The Eagles must play eight straight games before its bye week. After a week off, it will only play eight more games before they will have an opportunity,
, of resting during the wild card round during the playoffs.
As far as 'rest' is concerned, which team will actually benefit more from the recess by season's end?
Team A: 2 games + BYE WEEK + 14 games
or
Team B: 8 games + BYE WEEK + 8 games
My money's on Team B, but that's just my opinion.
I hate the bye week.

As for the Superbowl, why wouldn't the NFL want to creep into the sports-dead month of February? You realize that's a network ratings sweeps month, right?
You're right. As Hos has already alluded to, it is all about the :money:, but can lengthening the season be detrimental to the players who must endure it? I would say so.
The tradition of a January title game has been thrown out the window. It is now firmly planted in February, which you correctly described as a sweeps
month. What's to stop the NFL from pushing it out of the first week of the month..? It's already become associated with Groundhog Day. What's next?
A 'Valentine's Day/Week' Super Bowl? The league and the networks can tie in more female viewers with some weird and wacky romantic angle.
This is TV. And money. It could happen.
How about a 'Presidents' Day/Week' Super Bowl? The NFL is America's most popular professional team sport. Why not tie it in with America's most popular presidents?
I don't know, sir. When will it stop? On Selection Sunday, maybe? Who knows?
I hate February Super Bowls.
Unless Dallas is playing in one.
