Why has our D sucked since the 3-4 switch?

The D did their part too. That TD they allowed at the end of the half was a killer. You could literally feel the moment shift at that point (I was at the game).

I saw a defense lead us to a 13-3 season

Lots of sacks and pressure and turnovers. Our Offense let us down in playoff losses past 2 years.
agreed, however I dont understand in certain situations where Wade is a little passive when I think we should be aggresive. Like the drive before the half,I can only think he doesn't trust parts of the secondary yet

hey zimmer was a good 4-3 coach here at one time.that team came just as close to actually winning a playoff game then this years.lol.
Show me a moment when we had an opportunity to win at Carolina in 2003?
Can't?

Better yet, tell me when we even had the lead in that game.

I'll be waiting.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. I believe Wade and Brian Stewart knew outside of TNew the CB's couldn't be left alone too often. Henry lacks footspeed so if he missed a jam or bit on a double move, he'd be toast. Reeves had speed but lacked experience and is truly just an average player. Teams were going to attack him all day if he played press coverage or a great deal of man.

Then there are the safties. Roy has well documented issues in coverage and Hamlin had to worry about Henry and Reeves a great deal.

All in all, if Dallas addresses the CB position the way they attacked the OLB position the last three drafts, all will be fine. Henry will be a very good third corner if Dallas drafts a blue chipper in round 1. If Dallas gets a Talib or McKelvin in round 1 along with a Justin King or J Ike from Wisconsin in the 3rd (I know he has a red flag due to a burglary charge he got with his brother but that is why I think he will slip to the late 3rd or early 4th) things in the secondary will be just fine.

That will allow Wade to be much more aggressive with his blitzes and allow
Dallas to put Roy on the bench in Dime packages while putting the rookie CB's in and moving Henry to FS and Hamlin to SS.

They also had no pass rush, which was the case the entire 7 years of Zimmer's tenure as D-Coordinator. We also had Tony Dixon starting at safety, probably the worst safety I've ever seen. It was amazing to chart him and watch him go to the wrong receiver roughly 50% of the time.

why was it so good in 2003 tho?i remember it being very tuff.almost baltimorish?btw what do they run?

Darren Woodson.

But your memory is a bit off. They were very much a Zimmer "bend-don't-break' defense that although statistically was ranked very high they created very little pressure or turnovers. Very un-Baltimorish.

The secondary played well that year because it was the year before they started changing up the PI rules and Mario Edwards was still allowed to mug people opposite of T-New. You'll notice his lack of presence in the league now.

Plus we played a lot of crummy teams that year.

I mean in 2003 our D kicked butt in the 4-3 and many years before that.I know that RW has sucked since the switch.not that it would have anything to do with him or maybe the scheme does, idk.the 3-4 is ran by so many teams now, whats baltimore run especially in their hay days?

Big Misperception here!

Our 2003 defense was simply getting away with blitzing Roy Williams because they respected our man coverage until Chris Chambers of the Dolphins publicly stated how our corners are overated; the Dolphins went on to expose our defense by throwing deep against our man coverage with success. This gave the rest of the league a blueprint to beat our defense. After that game, we were forced to playing our safeties into coverage and we could no longer apply pressure because our front four couldn't do anything by themselves. That's the truth. Our defense was never the same after that game. They also realized that Roy Williams wasn't great in coverage that year too and started to throw more towards his way.

An example
You need a carpenter to come in and help you build a new wooden yacht. Well, you can't find one, but a good friend of yours has been building cabinets for 20 years, so your hire him. Well the yacht doesn't turn out too well, and you are ashamed to even show it.

Same thing more or happened with Zimmer. Parcells or Zimmer neither one really understood how to run a 3-4. They watched film for a summer and thought they could do it. It did not turn out well after 2 years and Zimmer left.

Now we bring in Wade who does know how to run a 3-4, but he has had no chance to get his kind of players in the positions he wants. Give him some time and he will show Dallas Fans what a good 3-4 can do. You just can't do it overnight. Took Landry, and Johnson time to get the right players into their system. With the salary cap it is even harder.

Going to take some time.

Quite simply-we don't have a monster 330 pd Wilfork/Jamaal Williams/Casey Hampton at NT. Jason Ferguson is pretty good, but this mere 315 pder ain't gonna get it done(plus he has zero pass rushing skills).

All in all-we just can't get alot of movement in that middle, which should open things up from there.

More reason to scrap our Garbage POS 3-4 defense and move back to a 4-3 Defense. We do have the players to move back to a 4-3.

Agreed, that was a big letdown going into the half. However, we started strong in the 3rd w/ that drive but could only get a FG (Fasano drop, Romo misfiring to T.O.). If we had gotten a TD there, I think the momentum swings back our way for the rest of the game.

I believe the offense carried this team for more than 3/4 of the season. Our defense was carved up by a lot of no-name QBs as well as the big names.

Remember Tony passing furiously to keep up with the opponents' offense?

How about getting the ball on the Giants side of the 50 with a 1:50 left and can only move about 20 yards? That's sad.

BTW, was it the defense that set them up in that position? Just curious.
