Thanks for the clip.

Tony Hill told me years later that was one of his favorite and best games. He specifically mentioned the one-handed catch.

I love the Dallas Cowboys. They have been a part of me for 35 years. When I decided to write this I didn’t want to write a “theme” or “short story”. I just wanted to express my love for this team, and how they have been part of my life.

I can remember watching my favorite team way back to the mid to late 70’s. I would sit there with my Dad in his favorite leather chair. We would sit there side by side watching. Did I know what was going on? Well that I can’t remember, but I do remember seeing my Dad get excited, and go through the ups and downs of a season, and that was exciting to me. When I got a little older and could understand, my favorite player was Danny White. I can still remember that bad hair cut, and his sort of “cross eyes” he had. Man did I love Tony Dorsett as well. Still to this day when I see the #33 in any sport, on any player, I say that’s Tony’s number.

After the 1988 season came a new regime. Jerry and Jimmy. While we were sad to see Tex & Coach Landry go, it was time. Like they always say, all good things must come to an end. Jerry and Jimmy understood what it meant to be a part of the Dallas Cowboys and they turned them into greatness again. To me they always were great, even if it didn’t show on the field. I was in college during the early 90’s, but I always tried to make it home a few Sundays a season to watch with my Dad. At that time, he would watch me and the emotions I would have, just like I watched him when I was a little boy.

The Dallas Cowboys were always part of our family’s life. We would work schedules around them. They were there for us come Fall, and they were always there for us during the holidays. We were always there for them. Whether they were winning or losing, it was always about the Cowboys and our love for who they were.

My dad and I never actually went to a game at TX Stadium. In fact the first and only game I’ve even been to “in-person” was the Giants game on Monday night, when Parcells benched Bledsoe, and the Tony Romo era began. I will always remember that game for the rest of my life. We didn’t win, but knowing we had found a QB and I was there to see it, will always live with me.

I love the Dallas Cowboys. What else can I say? Would I rather we win every game and the Superbowl every year? You bet. But I’ve come to the realization that it doesn’t matter if they win or lose, it’s the memories I’ve had and shared with my family. I have a son now and I hope we will share those same moments like my dad and I did. The Dallas Cowboys are a symbol to me and my family, just like a Christmas tree is to Christmas.

We will always be there for them, just like they have always been there for us. Win or Lose.

Bro'...this was beautiful and i could not have said it any better myself. The Cowboys to me, are more than just a team, for 32 yrs they have been a way of life and will continue to be that til the day i die! I Love the Dallas Cowboys:star:

What a great video.

... I miss how the game was called by refs back then ... especially the old school rules allowing more contact between CBs and WRs.

(that old music was great too)

Great video - enjoyed my lunch for once. Saw Danny play in Philly as a yute - some great passing to thrill hill in those days.

Love the Cowboys, can't stand J. Jones.

My dad was born in 1955 in Ft. Worth, and he has been a cowboys fan since their exsistence. I was born in 1981, and one of my earliest pictures is of me in a cowboys onesie. I'm forever grateful that he raised me to be a fellow cowboys fan. I'm loyal to all of my favorite teams, but none more than our Dallas cowboys. My dad and I saw one game at Texas stadium. Hopefully we will see one at the new stadium. A couple of his Christmas gifts from me in the past have been a legacy walk paver, which reads "Harold walker, father & friend, cowboys for life" and an roger staubach autographed football. Every week we watch the games together, and it is a tradition that I hope I will share with my son if that day ever comes.

I too love my Dallas Cowboys. I remember watching games with my brother. He too is a huge Cowboys fan. I saw him once cry after a loss. Now that is a die-hard fan.

I remember the days of Danny White, Tony Dorsett, Drew Pearson, Tony Hill, Doug Cosbie, Harvey Martin, Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Randy White, Everson Walls, Ron Springs, etc. That's when I became a bonafied Cowboys fan. Have not looked back since.

My son is 1.5 months old to the day. Remember Skylar Day - he will play for the Cowboys.

I wish I could play for the boys. If I was in the draft, my biggest fear would be drafted by the eagles, Commanders, or giants. And as much as we praise athletes staying with one team their entire career, I would bolt to the cowboys the first opportunity I'd get.

I was at that game. It was one of two I attended that year. It was a disappointing loss. A few of us travelled across to Charlotte for the SNF against the Panthers where Romo had his first start. A long and eventful trip, with some hope, but not knowing what to expect from TR. It was probably one of the best games I have attended in my life. The atmosphere after the game amongst the Cowboy fans was awesome.

Hopefully I can continue attending a couple of games every year. You cannot beat being at a game. The whole experience is something else....

Great Post. Love the 83 opener clip. That might just be my favorite regular season game of the 80's. Monday night opener against the Giants in 86 has to be a close 2nd when Herschel scored the game winner.

The SNF Panthers game is perhaps my favorite regular season game of the 21st Century.
Loved the pat Parcels gave Romo at the end. Brought a tear to my eye.

Awesome Awesome vid! I remember that game. :p: Like everyone else I'm sure, I hate Riggins with a passion because every time he played us he would absolutely destroy our front 7.

I took for granted Landry and the playoffs. Never imagined a Cowboys' team without Tom Landry. But I was young. Now they will live on without me. I now hope to live to see Stephan run the team.

Awesome post. I too grew up a Cowboys fan right from the get go in Rochester NY. Even though the Bills were a stones throw away our household was Cowboy country. I was a big Staubach fan and he really was my first "hero" that I looked up to in pro sports. My first recollections really began in the Denver/Dallas superbowl, watching Butch Johnson make that TD catch. I remember being devestated when Pittsburgh beat Dallas the second time (too little to remember the first). I tore up all my Steeler football cards that day. My parents would let stay up until half time on the monday night games and then my mom would leave me a hand written note on my bed side table with the final score and details on the second half. I can still remember waking up totally anticipating those notes. I remember Gil and Coach Landry get shown the door and be upset...it felt so wrong.

I could go on an on but I feel the same way as the post the thread started with. The Cowboys are an awesome thing to have in your life and to share with the lives of others, win or lose.

Also, that Wash. Dal Monday night game I remember...it was one of the few I got to stay up and watch til the end back in those days before bed. I still remember saying that night to my dad when Tony broke that run that the only guy who could catch him was Darryl Green...sure enough, it was him...fastest guy in the NFL for a while.

Thanks for a great post, stirred up some memories for me.
