Why I Say No to Josh Gordon

While stalking a place to grub during my lunch hour, I hear the General (Gavin Dawson) state his case for the Cowboys acquiring the services of Josh Gordon. I have to admit, initially, I was intrigued. He would be an amazing weapon to have opposite Dez. But in times like these you have to weigh need against want, which is an entirely different affair when that is applied against an NFL football roster.

Lemme splain –

In life, need and want is easy. You need to eat / you want to eat something good. In football, the Cowboys need a threat opposite of Dez / they want someone who can complement Dez to an extent that defenses have to respect them both.

While the Cowboys don’t have a guy like Gordon opposite Dez, they do have talented players. Williams/Beasley/Butler are by no means scrubs…they can get the job done…just not as well as Gordon. If I couldn’t say that of Williams/Beasley/Butler, I’d be all for the Gordon acquisition. But as it stands, his attitude could do more damage off the field than his play on the field helps. Think Hardy 2.0

Again, I’d be all for it if the Cowboys had nothing behind Dez, but the truth is they do have serviceable talent and therefore Gordon is by no means a need…and all things considered, I don’t want him either.

Thoughts?

Don't care, Gordon/Bryant on the same team and on the field at the same time would just be too hard to pass up.

It won't happen though so the discussion is pointless.

Yeah, Browns aren't gonna give him up unless a decent package is put together. They stick with him this long, they might as well see it through.

I'd take him quick and let you pick which WR behind Dez you want to trade him for.
No way I'm letting T wil stop me from Gordon...
Now a drug suspension may...but not T Will.

My thoughts are if the Cowboys could actually get him, I'd be 100% for it.

I wouldnt. Gordon is a beast when he plays, particularly if you get him cheap. Look at what he did on a bad Clowns team with a bad QB.

The Cowboys are obviously not good at keeping players away from drugs. It would be a bad idea. It's not as if he would be free anyway. The Browns have kept him this long, they won't give him away.

There are only so many balls to go around, especially with the Cowboys renewed emphasis on running the ball. I do think there is such a thing as having too much of a good thing...having Gordon and Bryant lobbying for catches in the huddle would not end well me thinks...

The Browns say he has been amazing in camp anyway.
not sure why they would give him up.

He hasn't played since 2013 and doesn't he come with a four game suspension?

The Cowboys have enough weapons...I would not want to jeopardize what looks to be good chemistry on that side of the ball for him. I assure you this team is going to be really good without him...he would be an unnecessary risk.

Dez, Gordon, Witten would be getting the bulk of the receptions with some Beasley and Williams here and there. If this opportunity somehow miraculously presented itself, not many teams has something like this. You don't sit and wonder about some short WR not getting enough catches or Williams who is on his way out anyways. You sign the big guy and line him up opposite of Dez, heck, there were times in 2013 it looked like Gordon's ceiling was even higher than Bryant's. He's just that good. Look what Brandon Marshall and Jeffrey did for McCown in 2013, similar situation. You can't say no to this unless the risk of another suspension scares you (Which is understandable)

You'd have to overpay for him anyway as the Browns have said they don't want to trade him and that he's looked very good in camp for them.

No interest. First, Cleveland is going to want value in return. Second, he is a restricted free agent next year and if he produces this year he is going to be looking for his big payday. Lastly, he is another failed test from being done. While I have not heard/read that he is a bad lockerroom guy, Dallas doesn't have the best history here. We all know when Dallas is winning, the city treats you like rock stars. It is easy to slip up again.

An offense with Elliott, Gordon, Bryant, Witten, our line, and Bease underneath throwing in T Will and his baby hands and Brice and his speed in on 5 WR sets. Who the hell do you cover? We would literally have the best offense ON PAPER in the NFL. This would be a no brainer for me at the right price.

I agree. This team has been burned too many times recently in the risks they've taken on troubled players. I'd like to give that pattern a rest for a while.

He is just one failed test away for another suspension with which he may not be reinstated. No thank you!

Why get a WR who is pretty much GUARANTEED to miss games for weed. The guy can't be trusted, and he's proven that over and over. We already have enough problems. Why add another?

For the very same reason that Rolando McClain and Greg Hardy are very bad roster choices right now...Gordon would not be a big factor in support of the team base tenet: team...team...team.

No matter how bright it shines, to this fan, it's still fool's gold.

Pac Man and Tank both didn't strain out the pollution in their own socks, to stay on roster...
