Jerry gave Wade one more year. Not because he wants continuity, or thinks Wade is the "right guy for the job". I think it's because he has someone in mind that isn't ready to take the reigns. While I would like Cowher, I don't think it will be him. I think it's Holgren. Of course this is all nothing but speculation. Though I feel completely confident that Wade's return is nothing but a stopgap. I cannot believe Jerry would look at this last year and truly believe that this was not Wade's fault.

I have stated this repeatedly that this is all about Jason Garrett.

He has probably already promised Jason Garrett the job and at this point, he knows Jason Garrett isn't ready and couldn't justify promoting to Head Coach.

I think Garrett's amazing inability to mature really has Jones in a bad spot. He doesn't want to change just to change. So he's beating the continuity drum to save face.

As for Holmgren, you might be right. 2010 is when he will probably return after he follows through with the promise he made his spouse. Unfortunately, 2009 is going to a painful season again because we are playing a waiting game.

when the reports came that cowher was not ready this year he needed one more year off, that is what I thought immediately.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if Garrett gets another offer. Would Jerry let him go or can Wade and promote Jason here?

I doubt that situation comes up though. I don't think Jason will get offered - or except it if he does, if he indeed has been promised the Cowboys job. And I can't believe Jerry paid him $3 million to keep him from going to Baltimore just to have him stay here as OC.
