I think at this stage in his career he can be a effective role player. He doesnt have the quickness anymore to be an effective starting back in this league. However he can still run with power, pick up the blitz and catch a few passes out of the backfield.

Alot of good stuff has come out about Randle early in camp, and it looks like he has the early lead. McFadden when/if he is gets healthy offers us alot as a 3rd down back. But with the term "dirty yards" thrown around during the offseason, I dont think we have that back. I think that is where Jackson still has capabilities. Let me ask you this, in a critical 3rd and one situation, would you rather have an untested HB or would you rather have a player like Jackson that still has the power to make that play, and knows exactly what he has to do and where he has to go to get to that marker and move those chains

Randle, McFadden, Dunbar. No way be keep 4 rb's. Only way is if we cut McFadden. Coaches like Dunbar and want to see what McFadden brings. If he has a major season ending injury, sure then we can sign a replacement.

Nate Newton on TC said that Atlanta blew money on Steven Jackson last year. That he was done when he was last with the Rams. That Chris Johnson has a little bit left in the tank and might have a lot more with the Cowboys OL.

I think the difference ATL wanted his to be the lead back. Here he would be a specialty player

Parcells had the chance to get Action Jackson and chose Julius instead.

Jackson was a huge cowboy's fan too... It would have been fun.

We aren't keeping 4 rb's so anyone who comes in is going to have to beat Dunbar out. Or hope dmac can't stay healthy
If a guy had special teams skills and could do what Dunbar does he might have a shot, or if dmac can't get on the field. To me the starting spot, for what it's worth, is randles to losr

I want to say he is done, but he could get 12-56 yards for the most part behind a weak Atlanta line for 15 games.

Maybe he is just mostly dead.

If Dallas wants a big, bruising RB who has no runs skills (anymore) but can bang it up in there on 3rd and short... then there are a lot younger, cheaper, better guys out there to do that.

They could literally get probably 20 guys who could fill that role.

Let me ask you. In the 4th quarter with under a minute to go, 4th and 1 and down by 4. How good do you feel about Steven Jacksons ability to pick that up, even at this stage in his career. Especially if he is the 3rd most used back on the team

I feel horrible about the odds of him picking it up. He is HORRIFIC and can't be trusted even for a yard. He will NEVER be a Dallas Cowboy. Just move on bro.
