It won't bother me in the least, because I put about as much stock in a kicker as I can kick a piano for distance. I hate them all. I have no more faith in a vet like Grammy than I would with a rookie like Folk. I find that thinking ridiculous, but to each his own.
Ok, I get all the fun with the "Rook" and the "Hate the D*** kicker" thing. But All of this is still concern for the new season. Just one artical I read but I still have my own opinion.
Dallas Drafts Isaiah Stanback To Play WR, But There’s One Problem: He Can’t Run or Cut
I have nothing against Isaiah Stanback, and of course I hope he becomes the next Hines Ward, but drafting a guy in the 4th round with an existing Lis-Franc injury seems a little "Drafting Quincy Carter in the 2nd round" to me. By all accounts Stanback would have likely been available in the 5th or even 6th round, so it seems the Cowboys jumped the gun a little in trying to get cute and outsmart everyone. We Cowboy fans have seen this act before in the aforementioned Quincy Carter, in Kareem Larrimore, Dwayne Goodrich, Shante Carver, and Kavika Pittman. I don’t need to go on, as I might need a Prozac cocktail if I do, but the point is made: Often when teams try to get cute in the draft the only ones they outsmart are themselves.
Making this draft choice even shakier is that Stanback is currently still healing from his Lis-Franc injury and the after effects thereof. More than a week into training camp in San Antonio and Stanback has yet to get on the field. Moreover, the Cowboys are currently 4-deep at WR with T.O., Glenn, Crayton and Hurd all but guaranteed spots on the roster. Miles Austin is currently 5th, but is having a tough time holding off Jamel Richardson and Jamaica Rector. So where does Stanback fit in? He’s going to have to get on the field and show his stuff soon, else he will be PUP’d, or flat-out cut like Skyler Green at the end of 2006. That would be back-to-back waste of 4th round picks, i.e., not good.
(Sorry, Cowboy fans, but allow me to defend my argument even further before you pepper me with emails. Think of it this way: Let's pretend the Commanders actually kept their draft choices and had an extra 4th round pick. Would you make fun of them for drafting a QB convert to WR with an existing Lis-franc injury, or would you make fun of them? Be honest. That's the one of the objective litmus tests I always employ when assessing any moves by the Cowboys. I say to myself, "If the Commanders had made the same move, how would I feel?" If the answer is uproarious laughter (e.g., Marcellus Wiley), then I am distraught. If the answer is respectful admiration (Anthony Henry), then I am happy. Stanback didn't exactly elicit laughter, but it was more than just a little questionable
