Dallas invested too much into cornerbacks, resigning players who are often injured (Lee), and resigning players too early (T. Crawford). Jerry and Stephan have to stop and refocus on DTs, LBs, Safety, QB, RB & WR.

Even though we haven't played like it this season but this is a young and talented roster. It's up to the coaches to get them together and motivate them to play their best. Play to the strength of the players and forget the scheme.

You want to know why Belichek is so good. ....cause he puts players in positions that fit their strength. He attacks the other teams weakness. He doesn't say we do whatever the other team gives us, he attacks.

unfortunately this seems like Jason Carrot's MO. Make the players fit the scheme. Man beat man, execution etc. instead of make the scheme fit the players. It's been this way since forever. They just keep doing the same **** over and over and keep coming back with a handful + of mediocre seasons and only one winning one and they think their philosophy don't stink.

pathetic. Jason Carrot has had years for his "process" to work. YEARS! All we got is one winning season and its because of ROMO, a great Oline and RB in a contract year. I don't care who you are or where you are from... if you give me one good year out of 5 crap years you should be off to look for another job.

Why is Marinelli getting a free pass?

I dont think he is getting one from many here. His unit cost the game IMO. The most disheartening thing amongst many, was how the defense looked totally gassed in the 2nd quarter. That cant happen at this level and time of year.

Why do people always start threads with the idea that...Why is so and so getting a free pass...when the board has tons of threads that contain many posters complaining about the so and so who is supposed to be getting a free pass?

I am not ragging the OP because it has happened many times over the years by many different posters.

Why are you giving the OP a free pass? :D

I'm sure there are some anti-Marinelli threads and posts, but he has gotten far less criticism than Garrett and Linehan. I also haven't seen any criticism of him in the media like I have JG. I do think it's fair to say he's getting a free pass relative to the criticism he deserves.

What Media has been criticizing JG? Please share because the "TEFLON DON of TEXAS" has no bruises to proof it..

I just read that the Cowboys are on pace to force the fewest turnovers in modern era of NFL football.

They have forced 4 turnovers and are on pace to force 8 of them.

The fewest turnovers forced ever is 11 (2013 Texans) so the Cowboys are actually on pace to obliterate that extremely dubious record.

Question: When does Rod Marinelli start to take some criticism for the play of the defense?

Here on CZ, for the most part, criticism of Marinelli -- heck anything less than strong praise of Marinelli, results in the person doing the criticizing being dog piled, being called a troll, or generally just being paraded as the village idiot.

I am not advocating firing Marinelli, however, I believe the season has reached the point (8 games in) to take a step back and question the decisions being made on defense.

Trust in God Marinelli. I mean he did coach the Lions to 0-16.

The lack of adjustments can certainly be frustrating. But it also has to do with the players who get paid to play & are underperforming. Turnovers, and the lack of forcing them on defense, has undoubtedly helped doom the team in Romo's absence.

Marinelli's defenses typically create turnovers. Recent examples include the 2012 Bears, who led the league with 44 takeaways (including multiple defensive TD's), were 3rd in points allowed, and were top 10 in sacks & vs. the run. In 2014, the Cowboys finished 2nd in the NFL with 31 takeaways and were 8th vs. the run. The pass rush was the Achilles heel...so they added Hardy, drafted Gregory, etc. The 2012 & 2014 seasons were Mainelli's last two DC gigs prior to this year, and his defenses finished #1 & #2 in the turnover category with a combined 75 takeaways.

The scheme hasn't changed, and of course relies on getting consistent/solid play from a few positions. Last season, guys like T. Crawford & Ro. McClain played quite a bit better than they have this season. Durant was playing very well before his injury & Carter notched 5 Int's on his own. Hitchens also seemed better.

Talented players and JAG's alike, have enjoyed career years in Marinelli's scheme. JAG's could include guys like George Selvie, Israel Idonije, Corey Wootton, Major Wright, Barry Church, etc.

The team has made several changes...to include starting Byron Jones, releasing Randle & committing more to one back, going from Weeden to Cassel, replacing Leary with Collins, replacing Patmon with White and then going back to Patmon, etc. More changes are needed in all facets...but 6 straight losses likely means it won't matter much.

Marinelli needs to be the first to go.his idiotic views on the 1tech and his love for the Golden cock ruined this Defense before the season even began, because of him we passed on a lot of talented linemen .his mantra of drafting anybody in the late Rds to play a important position at 1 tech ruined this Defense.jerry needs to fire his ***.

Our corners aren't good.

Our safeties aren't good.

Our linebackers aren't good.

Our linemen aren't good.

The only person who seems to be getting a free pass is Will McClay or whoever had three years to fix this garbage roster and hasn't.

He hasn't gotten one from me. David Irving not being a starter much less in favor of Nick Hayden is inexcusable. Playing so vanilla and not blitzing when we can't get any pressure is inexcusable. Not attacking the weakness of Philadelphia's line is inexcusable which is their interior guards. Not benching Rolando McClain is inexcusable. Not abandoning that bend, but don't break style is inexcusable when it's clear it doesn't work.

I feel what you're saying, but Irving got destroyed against the run yesterday. He cant hold ground in the run game. That's why we essentially got him of the street and why he doesn't play more.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Hayden and I hate the scheme and thing Irving shows promise, just being realistic.

When Romo and Dez went down....we needed Marinelli and his men to step up and get us a win by themselves.
And we needed Garrett to step up and lead and motivate and get more production out of the team than the talent level would suggest is possible. We needed Garrett to beat into their heads that they couldnt make mistakes, and couldnt play undisciplined....and all this possibly could've gotten us a 2nd win. That isnt asking for much. It was asking for the leaders of this team to find a way to go 2-4 and not 0-6. They failed.

I have been saying this about the defense under performing for a while. I had been concerned and been arguing with a few about our 4th quarter defensive collapses and it was funny that they showed the stat and graphic last night. our 4th quarter defense has been bad. some blame it on TOP, but in all but one game we have had the better TOP. so that's just an excuse......

this defense has got a lot of investment into it and it just isn't performing. Crawford got a big contract and Irvin has actually out performed him and been more of an impact player.......we have scored 27, 28, 20, 20 in 4 of the 6 losses and given your start QB and WR were out, it should be good enough to win....yet we lose because we can't stop teams when it counts. we have 2 turnovers and can't pressure the QB.....

I think the Head Coach is to blame ever since he has been in post the defences has been mediocre and the offence very predictable, a good coach makes players better and puts average players in a position to excel, an ok coach wins with Superior talent but cannot win if players get hurt, a bad coach can't win even with good talent, Jason is not a bad coach but he will never be a good coach. The NFL and college football is the only sports that coaches are truly more important than the players, he cannot get a free pass

first, welcome to posting here! Second, you said it perfectly. In past weeks, if you said something negative about Marinelli, people reacted as if you called their baby ugly.

I wish I had a better explanation for why the defense can't get the takeaways. I'd be more critical of the DC if I knew what to point to and what was responsible. As it is, we're not getting very good S play from Wilcox, but Jones has really come on. I'd make that change as soon as White's able to return to the slot. Otther than that, though, I just don't know what's causing the problem. And I do know this is a defense designed to take the ball away, and that it's something they put a ton of emphasis on it. It's unreal how few we've gotten this season.

Just saying that someone gets a free pass doesnt make it true. If the only criticism marinelli got was the "you cant say anything bad a out him around here" posts, there would still be a bunch of criticism. You arent presenting new or original ideas.

Did they? I don't remember many people going after him. It's his defense, so he's responsible for it's performance. I think more than anything we're just not seeing a lot to specifically criticize. Especially before this week, where we'd put up a couple of games of 13 points allowed on defense.

Last night, I don't know if it was the LBs getting hurt or the team getting gassed, but we just collapsed late again. I'm not even sure why that's happening, but it's incredibly frustrating.

I dont think many did go after Marinelli, but I think that is partly due to how a few others were treated when they did rip into Marinelli. The man has come up incredibly small this year.
