Why Is Sean Lee Considered Undersized?

Carter is 255? That would be surprising... it took Lee 2 years to get to his weight, Carter would have had to gain 20+ lbs of muscle in just a year to pull that off.
Carter was in the 240s when he was drafted.

Yeah it is said that Carter has gained 13 pounds, and he was listed at 246 last year, which would put him at 259.

He looks huge in recent picks, but guess we will have to wait and see.

His arms look like he's on the juice.

You're right, think I flip flopped Carter and Lee's drafted weights in my mind at some point. Looked up Lee's but relied on memory for Carter, I guess 255 is doable, I don't think he needs to be even that big but as long as he keeps his quickness, I'll be happy.

He just needs to translate it to on-field quickness - too much thinking last year in his limited opportunities.

I can't find a link, but there was a direct quote from Sean Lee sometime in the past year where he said he didn't want to be over 240. He said that over 240 would affect his coverage ability because he would lose speed.

I guess that he could have just been referencing an in-season guideline that he put on himself.

Here are some of the best 3-4 ILB's in the NFL

Patrick Willis - 6'1 240
NaVorro Bowman - 6'0 - 242
Brian Cushing - 6'3 248
Derrick Johnson - 6'3 242
Ray Lewis - 6'1 250
London Fletcher - 5'10 245
Lawrence Timmons - 6'1 234
Takeo Spikes - 6'2 242

At 6'2 245, how is Lee undersized?

I posted the same thing more times then I can count after he was drafted and the criticism was hot and heavy. It was ignored every time.

Truth is............some folks just arent happy unless they are picking something apart. Whether it be a player, coach, team, or an idea.

All that matters in the end is that Lee seems to be a heck of a player. Glad he's on our side instead of someone elses.

Lee is working out around 254 right now, everyone around him says he looks jacked. Lee himself says he put on about 10 pounds of muscle over last season.

He has never been undersized, it's just another excuse his critics use who can't seem to let go.
I love the additional size. Now on top of natural instincts, he's going to bull doze people.

...I always felt ended up coming to the NFL 10 yrs too early was Dexter Coakley. If he was on the roster right now with his quickness he could have teamed up with Carter and Lee to give excellent pursuit against backs and coverage on the speedy TEs the league is now featuring.

Seriously? Dexter Coakley was maybe 225 soaking wet.

Hopefully not Atlas since that physique has been claimed already!

Muscle does not weigh more than fat. Muscle is denser, but 10 lbs of muscle weighs the same as 10 lbs of fat.

Hearing people continue to say this is very annoying.

If his goal is 255, and they want him to put on more muscle, and he currently weighs 254, then yes, obviously they would want him to tone up.

You could tell from looking at Sean Lee when he was drafted that he could put a lot more muscle on his frame. He looked like a high school kid. When he brings that physicality to his game, he is going to be that much better.

lol, yes 10 pounds is ten pounds, but that is not what people mean when they say muscle weighs more than fat, you even know that muscle is denser than fat so you know if you were to put the same amount of fat next to muscle it looks like this

what people mean when they say muscle weighs more than fat is that if two people are the same height/weight but one looks smaller they are saying one has more fat and the other has more muscle.

the fact that anybody would have to explain this makes me question your intelligence

If that's what people 'mean', then that's what they should say.

I shouldn't have to guess what you 'mean', you should communicate more clearly.

Sheesh... it's like arguing with my wife. :)

I understand what you're saying, but I think you're being a little picky here. We all know that a pound of feathers weighs the same as a pound of bricks. However, If I gave you a handful of fat and a handful of muscle, the muscle would wiegh more since it has a higher density. That is what people typically mean since "density" is not a term used by the average person.

As far as Lee is concerned, to me, he looks like somebody who is not naturally very big. His shoulders are not particularly broad and he has a puffier, bulked up look. Kind of like his arms don't really belong on his shoulders if you know what I mean. I love him as a player, but I have a concern that he plays bigger than his body will allow. In boxing, there's a difference between a natural heavyweight and a blown up middleweight. The scale may say "heavyweight", but the body is being maxed out beyond what is natural for the frame/bodytype. My fear for Lee is that he ends up like John Offerdahl. Offerdahl, for those who are younger, was a terrific LB for the Dolphins who was constantly injured. Strains, sprains, you name it. I always believed that he "played bigger" than his body could handle. I hope Sean Lee does not have this problem. This is just my opinion, of course. For the record, the fact that Offerdahl is white is purely coincidence. It's just the best example I could think of at the moment.
