Because they are allergic to real coaches
Because they are allergic to running the ball on back to back plays inside the 20

It never fails. We can never build off any successful season. There is always something next year that screws up.

2007- 13-3...Then we follow it up in 2008 by starting very hot and look to be right back where we were but then Romo gets hurt and we never full recovered and had a bad end to the season.

2009 - first playoff win in 13 years. Follow that up in 2010 by starting terrible even with Romo. He then gets hurt the rest of the way and the season is definitely done. But we were bad even with him starting.

I won't even count 2011-2013 because that just full of 8-8.

2014 - 12-4 and another elusive playoff win. Then that offseason we decide not to bring Murray back. Dez holdout. Shaky draft. Start off 2-0 and then Romo pretty much done for the year. Season over.

And now the follow up season to the great 2016 season. Maybe one of the best regular seasons in franchise history. Easily could have been 14-2 had we cared about game 16. Won 10 or 11 in a row. You have your QB and RB of the future and they are stars as rookies. And then this. And it started in the offseason with the suspensions, Zeke saga and other arrests. And even before the Zeke suspension today, we were just 4-3 and farting our way through the season so far.

It's so frustrating to not be able to build anything here from year to year. It's an every few year affair. We taste success and then spit it out next season. I felt I needed this rant after today. Just sucks. 21 years of mediocrity.:banghead:

Technically you're skipping years if you're starting with 07 because that was a follow-up year to 06 where we made the playoffs and only lost to Seattle because of the slippery ball

I have said it multiple times over the years...this team is Bi-Polar.

One week good, next week bad.
One year good, next year bad.
One game the defense is good, next game bad

I get the frustration, but have you checked on how the other successful teams from last year are doing? NOT good; it's tough to be great from year to year in the NFL, and in our case, rebuilding your defense so drastically in one season isn't going to look polished.

It's a process.

Let it be said again and again so CZ homers who are starting to see for themselves can "believe" again

It's a process
It's s process
And not just any process, mind you

It is a process of stacking

Nothing more than complacency. Look at the SB champs. For two year straight they have traded 2 of their best players for high draft picks in Collins and now Garrapolo. Always thinking ahead, not patting themselves on the back.

Why is this season not a success? I think it is WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY to early to say it's not. I've been frustrated with the losses because we should have beaten all three, but we are very competitive.

Also, when you have a good season, your schedule the following year is exponentially more difficult.
We won the division, so we play all the division winners next year.
"Generally, each team plays the other three teams in its own division twice, all four teams from a single division in the AFC once, all four teams from a single division in the NFC once, and two additional intraconference games based on the standings from the previous season."
This kind of scheduling leads to more parody and makes sustained greatness more difficult. Also, injuries. If you read your post, you'd notice that injuries marred a lot of those following campaigns.

I have a couple of theories.

1. Management gables too much. Too many players with question marks are brought in because they are, "too good to pass on". Randy Gregory is a shining example. Jaylon is - up until now - a very good example. Give the team pretty much any 2 defenders who were deserving of those picks and Dallas has more production and is a better team. You would struggle to pick 2 players with deserving grades who would give you less than Gregory and Smith have.

2. Expectations create complacency. I don't think it's any coincidence that Dallas had a very good year last year when they were expected to struggle through the growing pains of a rookie QB. Similar to other seasons, when Dallas is expected to compete, they flounder. When they are expected to struggle, they do better than anyone thought they would.

Management and coaching has let the team down for a number of years. With the QB play Dallas has had for the past decade, they sure as hell haven't gotten much out of it.

They gamble on hope. They rarely gamble on sure things.

Even Jerry Jones says he has never failed when he "overpaid".

Thing is, we are trying to hit the jackpot on the penny slots.

And the complacency is a direct result of a pathologically optimistic front office.

They like what they have, everything is awesome, continuity is great, look at what we are building here. They will do this for quite some time.

Then they turn around and think they can dump the same talent they overrated for years and get better overnight in the draft.

It is a perfect recipe for spinning your wheels.

We lost to the Broncos - not the division champs last year.

We also lost to the Rams - also not the division champs last year.

No, those beatings are yet to come.

What else ya got?

"I've been frustrated with the losses because we should have beaten all three, but we are very competitive." I guess you missed this line.

Also, I wasn't saying that we've only lost to Division Champs. I was simply saying our schedule is more difficult the year after a good season, so duplicating that success is harder.

it's almost as if the NFL is extremely difficult, extremely competitive, and only truly great teams are dominant year-in and year-out.

Yeah, any time "should have" has to be used instead of a win, it's automatically discarded.

Also, I wasn't saying that we've only lost to Division Champs. I was simply saying our schedule is more difficult the year after a good season, so duplicating that success is harder.

And I was pointing out that the "more difficult" part involving playing the "division champs" as you mentioned, hasn't even happened yet.

The original post outlines many years of failure. I was pointing out that the scheduling following a great season is more difficult. This year included. So to say that the "more difficult part" "hasn't even happened yet" is kind of correct for this season. (I think we played GB because of cross-conference matchup) But incorrect for all the previous season the original post outlines.

But good work on winning my "internet guy of the day" award! Internet guy! :D

I must have been thrown off by this:
