Why Is This Team Allergic To Back to Back Successful Seasons?

I wonder if alternating good and bad seasons is a way to contend, and amass top-end talent. I’m not saying that this is a concerted effort by the Cowboys, but this seems better than mediocrity, or even a long stretch of good but not great play (i.e. the Packers).

Good question.
Without the bad seasons, we would have never landed top talent like Zeke and other high picks. That was one of my biggest concerns during the 8-8 years. Being average is a killer in this league.

Lack of sustained success is a symptom of the organization as a whole being mediocre. If you luck into a good QB (which the Cowboys did in 2006 and 2016), there is no excuse to not be contending almost every year short of a fluke rash of injuries to top players or something.

Since the Seahawks got Wilson, their WORST season was 10-6. The Packers under Rodgers have 7 10+ win seasons. The Packers with Roethelisberger have 9. That's the kind of hit rate the Cowboys SHOULD have, but their coaching and front office haven't been up to snuff since Johnson left so... yeah.

First..

We are 4-3 this year and second in the division and in as good a place as any to secure a playoff position.

Second..

Did you notice a bit of a pattern as to why all those follow up seasons may have been let downs?

You answered your in question bud. Star qb goes down..most teams won't look too good lol

I'm not buying your logic completely. Last year Tom Brady missed the first four games and the Patriots went 3-1 in those four games and ended up winning another Super Bowl without Gronk nonetheless. In 2010 the Steelers lost ben for the first four games and they end up playing in the Super Bowl. In 2015 the Steelers lose LeVeon Bell to suspension and injury and misses five games and the Steelers still play in the AFC Championship game.

I believe that Jason Garrett is terrible when it comes to rallying the troops. Any sign of adversity and we fold like a cardboard box. I hope this year is different but I just don't think it will be. Hello, top 10 draft pick.

Who says this season can't be "successful?" Why are you throwing in the towel? What are you afraid of? Not quite sure I understand the defeatist mentality of this thread?
