When he was selected in round 5 of the 2025 draft, most Cowboys fans saw RB Jaydon Blue as a speedy weapon who would probably be at the very least a Swiss Army knife secret weapon. With almost 75% of the season over, Blue has barely played, much less showed what he was drafted to be.
So…Why has Blue not been able to get on the field this year? Here are the reasons:
- Despite his speed, Blue’s college scouting report showed he had fumble issues and had major problems in pass protection. It’s why he lasted to round 5. He apparently has still struggled in the pass protection issues.
- Blue does not play special teams. His size hurts him as a tackler/gunner and his fumble issues keep him from kickoff returns and punts.
- Questions arose in training camp and into the season about Blue’s commitment to improving and learning.
- The re-emergence of Malik Davis. MD plays STs, is decent is pass blocking and has shown a burst in spot duty behind Javonte Williams.
Blue still has time to get his act together. His talent is there. But he has been reminded that in the NFL, talent alone won’t get you on the field. He needs to show a commitment to learn the offense better (especially pass protection) and exhibit that he is willing to do whatever it takes.
The 2026 off-season and TC will tell us a lot about Jaydon Blue’s commitment.
