Why no Grounding call on Manning on opening drive?

I know you guys saw this, but didn't Manning have the same kind of throw Romo threw but didn't get called?

Look, we lost.

We can analyze, psycho-analyze, over-analyze, under-analyze, question why the refs didn't do this, that or the other.

The bottom line is the Giants made the plays when they had to and overcame penalties and deficits and we did not.

I though he was PRE-analyzing. :lmao2:

Yeah man. We lost. Don't question anything. Why are you even posting on this board? That's not its purpose.

Even Aikman said could have been flagged for intentional grounding. That would have made it 3rd and 20.

But we'll never know.

I don't see anything wrong with what the guy asked. Its a pretty legit question.

Manning could argue that it was a miscommunication, that the receiver cut his route short (he cut in instead of going deep). That probably shouldn't have been called.

The Romo grounding call was nothing but an abomination -- a completely pathetic botching of the rules.

Here's the intentional grounding rule, exactly as it appears in the rule book:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section 3 Fouls on Passes and Enforcement

Article 1 Intentional grounding will be called when a passer, facing an imminent loss of yardage because of pressure from the defense, throws a forward pass without a realistic chance of completion.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Again, let me emphasize specifically what the rule says:

"Intentional grounding will be called when a passer, facing an imminent loss of yardage because of pressure from the defense, throws a forward pass without a realistic chance of completion."

It says the quarterback must be "facing an imminent loss of yardage because of pressure from the defense."

Not only that, but the rule book gives a specific approved ruling regarding cases when the quarterback is not under pressure:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A.R. 8.47 Second-and-10 on B20. Quarterback deliberately throws the ball out of bounds to stop the game clock.

Ruling: The pass was not thrown away to prevent loss of yardage. A’s ball third-and-10 on B20.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, let's look at Romo's situation when he threw the ball. This is just as the ball is leaving his hand ----v

6o0ce3k.jpg

And this is a fraction of a second after it left his hand, just in case someone thinks one of the four Giants pass-rushers was coming through an opening somewhere (the ball is just below the 4:12 on the clock, the dark spot right by the 49-yard line mark on the sideline) ----v

7y3tjpv.jpg

There wasn't a Giant anywhere close to him. There's no way anyone could think that Romo was "facing an imminent loss of yardage because of pressure from the defense."

After the sideline official ran in and told the referee that the pass wasn't near a receiver, you can see the referee say, "No, he was in the pocket," then throw his flag. Apparently, he forgot either that a) the quarterback must be facing an imminent sack, or b) that Romo wasn't under any pressure at all. So he blew the call.

Fantastic work AdamJT13.

Did you analyze our two defensive offside calls as well. I certainly didn't think Ware was offside on the first one. Didn't look like we were offside on our second one either. Don't we have to be past the line of scrimmage/ball. Yes we moved before the ball moved back each time, but on the first one not before the ball moved up (was a weird snap) and we didn't pass the line, IMHO, on the 2nd one.

Ellis was offside, no question. Ware was close, but he did start to move before the ball was snapped. He might not have been across the line already, but it's tough to say it was a bad call. He definitely was more offside on that one than the time he was flagged against Green Bay, when he started moving exactly when the ball was snapped and simply beat the tackle around the corner for the sack.

Thanks Adam.

Is the rule "you can't move before ball is snapped, or you can't pass the line of scrimmage, before ball moves".

Cheers,

:hammer:

Inexcusable work by the officiating crew. And they even huddled to discuss it, then still blew the call.

And while we are at it, why was that a penalty when Bigg wiped out Strahan? I couldn't hear the audio where I was, but the whistle hadn't blown, had it?

It was unnecessary roughness for "hitting a player who was out of the play."

Funny how they never got called for roughing the passer, but we got called for roughing the pass-rusher.

That was the penalty that wiped out a first down and essentially changed field position, setting them up for the winning touchdown.

They called it unnecessary which I didn't even know existed. I know its been a couple years but I remember Warren Sapp blowing the guy up well away from the ball and he wasn't flagged.

That was a huge penalty.

Wow.

I'm not that old, and when I played, you played until the whistle.

Sometimes I think that football as I know it is dead, and that makes me sad.

I'd like a count or video breakdown of the numerous times the Giants hit Romo late without drawing a flag. The one where Romo slid feet first really comes to mind, but there were many in the pocket as well.

we lost, we cant change nothing, yeah is probably a bad called, but also go study the last 1:40 seconds of the game and explain to me why we did not score, giants were the better team no matter what angle u take on this and what studys and excuses u guys put.

Gif starts on the first movement of the snap. You have to guess based on the yard lines. I'm pretty sure Ware's never parallel with the ball, and btw the neutral zone is only the length of the football, which = no offsides if true.

I need to add more frames to the beginning to show the original position of the ball when the center had it raised before he flattens it for the snap. I also should hold the first frame longer, but I'll just upload that frame by itself after I post this.

Edit: here's the first frame by itself: http://img293.*************/img293/6614/ware1yu8.jpg

Maybe you can show where in my post I said anything about it being an excuse for why we lost.

All I did was explain the rule and why the call was completely wrong.
