Why not play Taco this week instead of cutting him?

Give Taco a chance to show us and the league something. Against a bad Miami offensive line.

And save wear and tear on other players.

It's a roster spot this week, but we had cut Cedric Wilson, and no one picked him up.

The contract is guaranteed. If we cut him, we're still on the hook anyway. Cutting him is locking in the worst case scenario.

Taco got the Curvin Richards treatment.

Taco obviously did something that the coaches just refused to tolerate.

My guess is that after he put in more effort during the preseason, that he expected to be the starter at RDE. When he found out that he would not start, he likely freaked out. That was likely the point that they decided to make him inactive and keep him inactive.

There were rumors Taco wasn't giving it 100% last year if I recall correctly. Or maybe he's just stupid and isn;t learning how to play his position fast enough.

I will say this, if Gregory doesn't come back, and Trystan Hill continues to be inactive on Sundays, the Cowboys recent track record for drafting DL is not looking very good. Tank Lawrence is obviously a good player and Collins looks decent. But those other 3, not so much.

I agree. The off field stuff was enough. Add to that, Dallas drafted him to be an every down player. That's what "the Marinelli contract" was about.
Go 100% every play, learn your job, and do your job.

Taco is all about sacks. Sacks get you paid. Taco wants sacks. If he were brought in as a sack specialist, that would be great. But the NFl picks up on these one trick ponies and next thing you know Taco gets caught out of position by screens, or concussion protocol when a team calls a trap draw.

He has value, but not to the Cowboys who want every down players.

Taco has no value, which is why we are cutting him. And judging by the defensive play in general, Marinelli's contracts aren't worth the toilet paper they are printed on.

As I said before, the guy had to be an absolute disaster behind the scenes in the meeting and locker rooms. Teams bend over backwards to not admit mistakes with first round picks, and for the Cowboys to straight cut bait with him despite having his salary fully guaranteed for this year, and nearly 500k guaranteed next year indicates that his presence in the building was a problem.

Props for admitting a mistake and getting rid of him, but this indicates what happens when you don't follow your board.

Man, I’m sorry that I was right about this pick from the start. It sucks to piss off such a high pick. We forced this pick. When we have just followed our board we have kicked ***.

I just keep reminding myself we got Chido Awuzie in the 2nd round in that draft. I wanted Dallas to draft him when they took Taco.

I'm looking at it this way, we rolled the dice time and again on players the likes of Irvine and Gregory, with all their misaligned head case issues, but yet pretty much toss a 1st rnd draft pick to the curb. Something tells me this is way deeper then he sucked, or wouldn't give his all on the field or......

Authority figures decided to make an example of him. Wasn’t he raised by women only? That has to be part of his attitude issues and it’s very unfortunate...

If you give a person a job and they agree to do it, how do you fault the person who gave you the job for your failure?

As an example, I had a fella come by one day wanting to mow my lawn. I talked to him a bit and he was going to use a push mower. I explained I mowed about an acre, and didn't think he could push it since it was in the upper 90s.

But he insisted he would do it. He'd go get his lawnmower and be finished that day. I was reluctant but figured I'd let him try.
He worked about an hour, said it was hot, and ask if I'd pay him so he could get his electricity turned on.
I went ahead and paid him and he agreed to be back at 7:30 next morning and have everything done by noon.

Next day he showed up after 9. About an hour later he's working on his lawnmower. Hasn't gotten a quarter of the front mowed.
And now he asking for money to fix the pull cord.

I said no. So he promised to be back the next day with the stuff he needed to finish the mower and finish the job.

Two days after that I ended up loading up his lawnmower, taking it to him and finishing the mowing myself.

Do you blame me?

The way I see it, he was given every chance to keep his word. He was paid upfront. He knew what he had to do, and didn't get it done. If your word is not better than a toilet paper contract, then you don't get a second chance.

Too much off the field stuff with Taco.

Allowing him to play in a regular season game sends the wrong message to the locker room.

Letting a 1st round pick flounce his way off the team with guaranteed money also sends a wrong message.

He was mad about playing in the base, and then getting replaced on passing downs?

For all the talk of BPA, Taco did seem like a forced pick to get a DE, and a particular type of DE, and we didn't take Watt.

Nobody knows the whole story but him and Marinelli. There are several write-ups online about the contract he had with Marinelli where Rod says everything was explained to the player and he was shown grades, and so forth.

Rod says "some were sprinting to the ball, some not." Although he doesn't name Taco, that's who he was talking with during the whole conversation. It sounds like Taco was doing Taco things, freelancing, or taking plays off.

shut-up and play.
he did neither.
good for them for cutting bait and moving on.
this really isnt surprising...drafted Dorance Armstrong last yr....got Quinn....then drafted 2 DEs...4 DEs in 2yrs....Taco got the message today.

It’s about the TEAM and messaging. You cannot reward his practice habits and other issues with playing time.
