Why Not Put Romo on IR?

I don't get it. He's played in only 4 games, and in those four games, he never looked in top form, throwing more INT's than TD's. Yes, he is Tony Romo...granted.

But if Cassel were actually to lead us to 5 straight victories and an 8-8 record, and if that 8-8 record magically gave us the division title, are you telling me we'd bench the QB who's been playing with the hot hand on the road and at home, the guy who got us there, and insert a recovering Romo with all the rust after what we just saw from him coming off the first layoff?

As QB's go, Cassel can't be listed on the same page, maybe not the same chapter as Romo in the NFL, but no way in the world would I bench a hot QB and go back to the guy coming off injury. Romo should be on IR now, in my opinion.

Doesn't sell tickets? If there is hope, they can sell you on that.

You have to plan for the scenario that we will make the playoffs until we can't make the playoffs. I know the odds are way way way against us but we are not eliminated as of today. And I don't think that they would sit Cassel if he led us to 5 straight wins. But Tony would be available for back up duty and at the first signs of trouble, Romo goes in. Much the same strategy that Johnson used when Troy A was injured.

Because this ORGANIZATION finds comfort in putting it all on Romo. And IF....IF.....we were to win out and make the playoffs....that would mean that Garrett would have to start making a difference on the sidelines...and the players would have to start playing with a sense of urgency. But if you are not COMFORTABLE playing/coaching this way...your are not CONFIDENT. So they easy way out would be to put it all on Romo once he is healthy enough to play....and let him be responsible for the organizations fate. Allowing him to get all the credit/blame....depending on if we win/lose.

Well, I suppose there is the scenario that if we make the playoffs and stick with Cassell, he could get hurt in a playoof game. Would you rather bring in Romo or Moore/Showers at that point? We are really deep down the rabbit hole with some of these scenarios now.....

I sincerely believe Cassel could come in, throw 15 touchdowns and no picks, lead us to the playoffs and this team would still play Romo the instant he is healthy enough. Nothing this team has done or said in as long as I can remember has shown they actually have a pulse for the personnel and the game. Garret and Jerry will give the "Romo is our man speech" and they'll put him in.

We are mathematically still alive. They should plan accordingly until they are not. If we made the playoffs and Cassell got hurt who do you want coming in Romo or Moore? Easy answer!

When we are a mathematically eliminated go ahead and IR him.

This is no different than any other team would do. Quit making crap up!

I think they will stick him out there even if he's not fully healthy come wild card weekend

I completely agree. I don't think giving his roster spot to some scrub 3rd string linebacker who won't even be on the team next year or whoever should change ya'lls opinions on him either.

It's true that there is barely any point to keeping Romo off IR.
But it's also true that there is barely any point to putting him on IR. The odds of the player given that roster spot making the difference for this team aren't any greater than Romo's.

Bingo.

They will 'Wade' this deal like he did in Buffalo. When everyone in the world knew Flutie should have been the starter in the playoffs and got them there, they put in Rob as he was the higher paid QB that the Owner wanted.

It makes no sense, if Cassel somehow wins out, would you really consider benching him for a rusty Romo?
