Why not Romo? Why not now?

It's a 2 parter boys. I'm just curious what everyone's take on this is. If the braintrust of the Cowboys believe Romo is the future then why not now. I know, I know Bledsoe will win more games, maybe, but does anyone believe he will honestly get us to and win a SB? What in his career has said he's got it in him? Now I'll give Bledsoe his due. Apparently he is a great guy off the field and so on, but come on if you're still CONSISTENTLY making rookie mistakes after over 14 years in the league isn't it a time for a change. Give Romo the rest of the year and see if he's got IT. I mean the real IT. No more rethread QBs. Either he's the makings of a bona fide QB stud or we get to drafting. No time to find out like the present. And no time better to start than against Houston. Just my take.

Romo should have started the season or at least come in in the 2nd half of the Jags game. The ONLY reason Bledsoe is playing is because Parcells Just doesn't get it.

I stay with Bledsoe and yes I think he can help us to a SB he has done it before in his career but he is not going to do it alone. I like Romo and I think he will get his shot down the road but not at this stage it is not time to play the experiment game. As for drafting a QB I would draft one regardless of what Romo or Bledsoe does this year.

So you guys have flushed the season after a 2-2 start? Beautiful.

You'll be back on the bandwagon after we beat the Texans and Giants and are sitting at 4-2 after week 7.

I agree. I think you gotta see what you actually have in this kid. I will honestly say I'm scared to death if Parcells is so enamored w/him that he may be a really great bus driver. If so I hope the experiment fails miserably, and we go back to actually drafting a #1 QB.

Dude this is not about flushing the season. Reread the post. Do you honestly believe Bledsoe can get us to and win a SB? If not why would we not see what we have in Romo for the future? So you'd rather go 9-7 or 10-6 and get knocked in the first round of the play-offs and still be unsettled at QB next year. No thanks.

Wow beating the Texans and Giants now we're doing something. Kind of like the Titans, we really put it to them.

To answer the original question: because Romo is an unknown quantity. He may be good or he may be bad. If the latter turns out to be the case, what then? In assessing the situation, BP is probably thinking that Bledsoe's play, as woeful as it's been at times, doesn't warrant taking such a risk so early in the campaign.

IF Parcells truly believes Bledsoe will keep making these kinds of mistakes then it makes no sense at all to stick with Bledsoe.

But Parcells is a cautious guy, and he likely thinks there is a chance for Bledsoe to pull it together and therefore avoid the potential disaster of having the season ruined early on by the mistakes that naturally may result as Romo works through the learning curve.

I'm not convinced this is the right attitude given that Bledsoe has these games a little more often than is acceptable, but I think that Parcells is watching this close and will pull the trigger if Bledsoe keeps playing poorly.

If you're already assuming that we have no Super Bowl aspirations for THIS year, then guess what? You ARE flushing the season.

I'm not ready to do that, and I don't think any level-headed fan would be.

Get some damn perspective. We're 2-2, 1-1 in the division. LOTS of football left to be played. You people talk as if we're 0-4.

Right, because Tony Romo's taking us to the promised land THIS year.

I don't know if we can win with Romo.
But I am certain we cannot win with Bledsoe.

Why don't you get some damn perspective and reread the original post. That seems to be a hard thing to do. Easier just to fly off the handle and go on a tangent. What in Bledsoe's carreer has said he's gonna do anything any different than he's ever done before?

THIS IS MY OPINION AND I ASKED A QUESTION? In my opinion the way Bledsoe plays and will always play against the real competition will never change. In my opinion we're just as well off w/Romo and seeing what he has.

Hahaha... based on 1 bad game.

And don't bring up the Jags game or the end of last season as further proof, because I'm sure you weren't quite so cryptic about our chances with Bledsoe right before the Eagles game, were you?

So you're essentially flushing the season because of 1 horrible game. Beautiful.

I'll catch you back on the bandwagon after week 7. We'll be 4-2.

Drew Bledsoe has to go!

At least Romo has shown some mobility. He will make a few mistakes, but I can live with that out of a young QB.

What I can't live with is stupid mistakes from a 34 year old QB who should know better.

One thing that I have noticed this season is if Bledsoe gets any kind of pass rush, then he goes into mental meltdown mode and makes stupid mistakes or simply holds the ball and takes the sack. He starts watching the linemen instead of looking downfield. He has shown zero mobility in the pocket. I'm not talking about the lack of scrambling ability, I'm talking about sliding a step or two one direction or another to escape pressure.

Romo has shown incredible escapeability. With our line play being suspect to blitz packages, our QB has to be able to move around in the pocket. Bledsoe simply is unable to do that.

This would be a perfect week for Romo to start against a week Texans team. Romo would not be asked to win the game for us. Parcells could be very conservative a we probably still win this game handily.

Get real, Ttown Cowboy. 90% of this board agreed that we had a shot at the Super Bowl THIS year before the season started. Now everybody's been flying off the handle since late Sunday afternoon because we lost to Philly and Bledsoe played poorly.

I can't wait to see the mood of this board after week 7.

So once again your not gonna answer the question in the original post. What in his career says he'll ever win the big games? Bledsoe has been like this his whole career. Maybe you need look at what he's always done. Not played well against good to great competition. Once he gets rattled it's over. I'm talking about his whole career. Not just this game. This is his MO. Why does he all of the sudden shell it this year? Damn your a bright one.

Ask yourself this - how old was Elway before he won the big game?

What about Jim Plunkett?

What about Brad Johnson?

And what about all those QB's that no one doubts were good enough but just never did?

I agree that Bledsoe isn't the most likely guy in the NFL, but to say it can't be done is wrong.

Bledslug is too old and obviously has lost a step upstairs. I've never seen anyone process reads as slow as bledslug is doing right now. Oh wait.. I have. I was at this pop warner game last year and...

Living in Bledslug's past is not going to get us anywhere close to a SB. 9-7 at best unless a move is made.

Just because he hasn't doesn't mean he can't, genius. And hasn't he already taken a team to the Super Bowl? Didn't he win at Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship game in '01? We have a great supporting cast here and if the OL gels, we can be extremely dangerous.

And guess what? If Pat Watkins and Roy didn't collaborate to give up 3 HUGE plays on D, and if McBriar doesn't drop that punt... we're 3-1 right now and NOBODY IS COMPLAINING ABOUT BLEDSOE, AND NOBODY IS GIVING UP OUR SUPER BOWL HOPES.
