Basically all we have done is draft Roy Williams as our 1st rounder with half a season under his belt, and traded out of the 2nd, with 12 picks to come from the 3rd round and on, if you see the whole picture, i would say this years draft although boring for the 1st day, could turn out to be a very productive one after tomorrow.:starspin

Wow, quite a few Cowboy fans on this site are pissed at Jerry and company for trading down for more picks Sunday. The Cowboys were justified in trading down. All of the players they targeted at #51 were off the board. So instead of reaching for a player, the logical action would be to trade down. Makes sense to me.

This is bad logic. It's the rationale the Commanders have attempted to use to no avail for a decade.

"It's OK our draft sucked. We really got Randel El in the third, Brandon Lloyd in the fourth, Clinton Portis in the second. We just decided to piss away the rest of the picks because those three guys are so freaking great!"

I don't hate the Roy trade. His presence could be a huge boon. And while he's intrinsically linked to this draft, you can't just magically fill in a 27-year-old's name in the place of this year's draft headline.

Sure, his success or failure will impact the draft. But the second, third, fourth, and so on rounds are JUST as important.

Those are the rounds you build a football team. It's where you find the Wittens, the Ratliffs, the Scandricks. You only get one first rounder, but you get a boatload of other picks.

Tomorrow will define this draft much more than Roy Williams IMO.

Here's the thing.

They get a pass for trading down as of right now. I don't think we got great value for the trade, so in that sense I think we lost. But if we draft two damn good players, we sure as heck didn't lose getting two good players for the price of one.

So, sure, here at 1:30 a.m. the Cowboys get an "incomplete." Not an "F." And that's a big difference. Tomorrow will determine what that grade morphs into.

Hopefully, for the sanctity of the board, we draft players tomorrow who pass the initial smell test and prove to be good down the road. The last thing this board needs is one of those drafts that only looks good a decade down the road.
