The way I look at it, trading for RW will turn out to be a great move when you look at the draft.
Going into the last draft, I believe almost everyone would agree that a position of need for the Cowboys was at wide receiver. When we didn't select one, most fans and the media cried that we didn't address a glaring need on this team and hoped it would be addressed via free agency. Again, didn't happen. So now we trade picks to get a very good receiver, who I believe could become great, and we also enter the upcoming draft without that weakness. Barring any unexpected injury, I don't think anyone thinks that I receiver is now a position of need. So let's look at the other positions. Anybody thing RB is a need position? QB? TE? FB? Possibly the only place would be O-Line if some of the younger players don't pan out. But not really a pressing need.
Now look at defense. I don't believe that CB is a pressing need because we just drafted 2 quality CB's last year that just need time to develop. It look's to me that our greatest needs are now all on the defensive side of the ball, and most of the positions are not really a dire need. Henry might still slide over to safety. We run a 3-4, so LB's are always a need, even though we are pretty solid there. Who knows if Zach will play after this year.
I think that the Cowboy's can go into this draft and pretty much target best defensive player available. They have plenty of picks left with which to do this. I like the fact that we don't go into this next draft desperate for a sure fire WR in the late part of round 1 and hope he pans out. Roy Williams gets a head start over any rookie next year in learning the playbook, and come next season, when a rookie would be struggling to learn the offense, RW should already know it inside and out.
Just my opinion, but I am quite pleased. Let's see what happens.:starspin
