Why the Cowboys's season is not over

Back in 1970 I sat in my college room watching the Cowboys lose to St Louis (Cardinals then) by a score of 38-0 on Monday Night Football. Dandy Don sang the good night the parties over song and Howard Cosell sat there grumping and predicting doom and gloom for the Cowboys.

Ole Dandy just laughed and slapped him down.

They were 5-4 after that disappointing loss. And they had lost the NFL championship to GB in 66 and 67 then lost the Eastern Division championship to Cleveland the last two years. They were the team that couldn't win the big one. They couldn't get to the SB. They were talented and good but not good enough. And now it looked like they weren't that good or talented.

They had a player's only meeting. They rallied around the leaders of the team. They had five games left to turn their season around. They won their final five games that year to win the Eastern Division championshp. No wild cards those days.

They then had the honor to play Detroit and their very good hard nosed defense for the right to play in the NFL championship game. They were spectacular on defense in a home game. They out defensed a very good Detroit team who threw a game out there that should have been good enough to win 95% of the time. I mean it was a bruiser that wasn't won until the very end of the game. 5-0. Not a baseball score.

Then they went to San Francisco to play a very good 49s team. They came from behind in Staubach fashion to win that game 17-10 and earn the right to play the Colts in the SB.

They really outplayed the Colts but lost the game with a last minute field goal. They still hadn't won the big one. Lilly threw his helmet must have been 50 yards in frustration.

But they had proved they were talented and very good. And they had rebounded from a 38-0 loss going 5-4 to playing in a SB.

I have another story for you but I'm going to wait and throw it out there later in the week.

I understand the frustration and disappointment. But let's try to keep the we suck, he sucks, he needs to be cut and he needs to be fired stuff in our frustrated minds and be fans supporting out team hoping they will turn their season around, too. And we have the talent. Too much is on IR and the sidelines but we're still talented and capable of winning a SB.

Go Cowboys.

Good post - but the problem as I see it is, we don't have any players that will get pissed off enough to throw their helmet on the ground, much less 50 yards.

This team is an emotionless bore in a lot of respects.

I don't think we have the leaders on this team to get our players rallied up. Most of our so called leaders aren't very vocal.

It's funny how some say it's TO dividing this team et al, but he's one of our FEW guys who are constructively vocal on this team.

I think there are about 10 other teams in the league that are less talented that could bounce back to have a successful team. Talent is not the issue here. Passion and leadership is. Accountability is also the problem. I don't doubt we have the players here to do it. I don't think our guys have the stomach for the challenge.

I see a lot of emotion and intensity on the field. We have some problems and injuries are killing us. We do look flat at times. I do agree with that but it's not all the time. A quitting team couldn't have come back to tie that game last week. Lack of intensity would have killed that too. I do agree there are a very few player(s) on this team who don't seem motivated enough. And we do have some players who make too many mental mistakes.

We definitely need TNew back. We need Spencer to rachet that pass rush up some. Some need to step up. We need Felix back. We have to have Romo back. And there's more problems. The team is literally beat the hell up right now. That's not forever. They have what's necessary to win it all IMO. They do need to get some more players out there on the field.

I have to disagree with that statement.

The only guy I see getting emotional is Terrell Owens.

It's like what Jason Witten or whoever it was stated last week, "We have to realize that we can't just beat teams by just walking on the field and the star on our helmet" or something along those lines. It is amazing that someone on the roster would even think that.

I see absolutely no emotion from the coaches and the players.

I find it odd how teams like Pitt has more significant injuries than we do, but they're still getting the job done in a business-like manner.

OK-Big Ben is not injured, but among their significant injuries, their best OLman is out for the year(Simmons), and both Parker/Mendenhall are gone. Again-they're getting the job done.

I have to agree about the injury point too Boysboy.

We may have some injuries but we are still trotting out more talent then most teams have.

I have a hard time finding even one thing to point to that make me believe this season isnt over.

We are never going to catch the teams in the east now and there is a good chance after next week we will be behind even the eagles.

Its just not there, break it down however you want, but it isnt there. This team just doesnt have it and it is a team that has been turned into a group of prima donnas who are told how good they are locally and nationally every time someone makes a tackle.

That Arizona game was huge and if their ever was a time to step up and play suffocating defense and make a stand for your season that was it. They didnt and now this team is in a bind that it has no answer for.

its 2004 all over again.

The 2004 team didn't even have any talent...period.

Anyhow-you know what I find so odd about this year's team? (T)eam (O)bliviator is the ONLY one on the team who's vocal and has a passion. Who would have thought?

The only thing giving me hope, as pathetic as it sounds, is that we are at the point that the Giants were last year and they are where we were at this point last year.

Last year, the Giants were pretty much done and everyone had given up on him. Coughlin was always looking like he was about to cry and all of New York was calling for his head. On the other side, we were riding all high and mighty. Well the Giants turned their season around somehow and wound up winning the Superbowl while we watched it on TV. Maybe there will be a role reversal this year.

I'm not talking about teammates yelling at each other on the sideline. I'm not in favor of a lot of that anyway. Sometimes it's necessary but I always did it on the field where the players heard it. Challenge them there IMO.

I see enough intensity and emotion on the field. We have some holes in our game right now. I posted elsewhere why this game got out of hand and then what happened. It's all explained in football terms and not emotional ones. I'm not saying there aren't times when it happens and there are a couple of players who don't play with enough intensity. I'm not even saying they don't need better coaching. That's quite obvious. But hopefully more will say something so I'll be quiet for now.

I have to admit ur right, this isnt the Giants from last year or steelers, our defense is horrible, just terrible and basically has been for a good while.Time for a 4-3 switch with a good coach?
