We are NOT ONE GREAT PLAYER away from winning SB.
We ARE a few good players away from winning SB.

So with that said... we need to solidify a few positions through draft, FA(as we have) and current players elevating their play.

I just dont see us even thinking about moving up in the first round. JMO.

Because everyone wants AP, or CJ, or some other highly touted player.

Me i say to make it easy, just tank next season, then we wont have to trade and we can get the choice of our highly touted players :D

Personally if it was a position of high importance, then I would say we could be closer to being 1 player away over being a couple of players away. Ideally I think RB is one of those positions that could very well take us over the top if the right player was to be found. When you consider the receiving weapons we already have on this team, the upgraded oline and the ever-emerging Romo, we're alot closer than alot give us credit for being and a dominate RB could be all we'd need. To boot, Wade's gonna come right in here and fix the defense, I have no worries there. On the other hand though, go for a guy like CJ, that would be nothing but an investment in the future and do very little for us in the now. If anything he might beable to come in here and unseat Terry Glenn, but the impact over Glenn wouldn't be that greatly felt until a few years down the line when him and TO started slipping or retiring. A guy like AP though, I understand that line of thinking. We're mediocre at that position, to become exceptional there overnight would simply change everything on our offense. Begin to control the clock better, suddenly it's also boosting our defenses effectiveness. Don't discount the importance one player could bring to this team...though like I said, the right player at the right position. CJ is not that, nor do I think any of the highly regarded defensive players are they, either.

ive almost never wanted to trade up, im always a trade down guy.. i think the best value is usually in the top of the 2nd round late 1st rounders.. if you can trade our 1st for a high 2nd and high 3rd i think that would be most beneficial..

All those people that are clamoring for AP or CJ do not realize that you are basically gutting your draft for the next couple of years. Years where we will need and infusion of youth on the OL and DBs. Ask Mike Ditka how things worked out in NO when you fall in love with a player.

im willing to bet theres 0 chance of us trading up to where CJ or AP will be available...

People were spooked by that DMN blog entry about the recent picks at #22.

It's usually casual fans that scream for getting a higher pick, because they've heard of Calvin Johnson and Brady Quinn, but have no idea who Anthony Spencer is.

Listen, Calvin Johnson is the prob the best WR propect in 15 20 yrs IMO. Maybe the best most cant miss prospect in 5-7 yrs. But everyone knows this, every other team. Dont you think there are others who want him. Our offer would prob have to be so insane, even more so than the ricky deal, that you simply cant do it. If we were at 7, 8, yeah, I'd say lets try. But there is simply no way to get there from our 22 without giving probably 22 yrs worth of # 1's.

And Adrian...he is prob going to be good, but he belongs nowhere in this discussion. He certainly isnt cant miss, way too many questions. He is nowhere NEAR the NFL prospect CJ is.

Yeah...the one that was wrong because not all the players listed were busts.

I know it's an unpopular opinion... but I think moving up IF there is a player that we deem special is the way to go. Give up some mid round picks and move up around 10 spots IF a high caliber player slips some. Like if Peterson falls out of the top 10 or something.

It's just my opinion. Much like when we moved up from 21 to 17 to get Emmitt Smith. That same year, Jimmy Johnson tried twice to trade up around the #10 spot to get Ray Agnew and James Francis. That would've been a trade up of around 10-12 spots which is about all I'm advocating.

Moving up into the top 5 or even top 10 is just too expensive. But if a gamebreaker falls some and we like him, then I say go get him.

Like I said, I know not many around here think that way, but I feel like it is a sound strategy under the right circumstances.

It likely won't fall that way anyway. Landry and Peterson will likely be gone by 10 anyway, so the chance to trade up for them will be gone anyway.

Just my $0.02
