Why was Stanback suited?

We should put him on the coverage teams so he can sprint after the punt or kickoff returner and catch them as they break away.:(

He's going to be real green as a wr this year.
But I really think if he works his tail off he can be a good to great wr.
He has size, speed and a great burst. Right now he is thinking to much because he is not use to playing wr.
Once he gets his assignments down and can just go out and play...he will be a difference maker.
I see Stanback as a player similar to what Crayton does only with deep speed.
But realistically he will not show his promise until next season.

I believe Phillips wanted to find a time to put him into the game but couldn't... I don't think he was suited up just for mop up time, come on be real about that.

Stanback may have been an emergency CB/DB. Cowboys were already missing Henry, Davis and Brown, all inactive. That left only Reeves, Jones, Oglesby and a semi-injured Newman. Safety was down to Hamlin, Watkins, and Williams. Say two CBs get hurt or nicked up and another safety, and who do you have left? I'm guessing Stanback was the emergency defensive back (think Pats Troy Brown). Also the Cowboys can suit up only 5 WRs with Glenn out. If two WRs get hurt Stanback has to play.

I HIGHLY doubt that considering he's a WIDE RECIEVER, not a Defensive Back.

And I'm with those that are getting a little impatient with TT. I could understand if the blocking hadn't been spectacular, but he just doesn't seem to be running hard/fast. He's not hitting it up in there full speed like he did last year.

Did he suit up as the emergency QB? Not suggesting this just asking. I suspect he was there because Wade had room for him with all the injuries. Otherwise he'd be inactive. The only thing he can do right now is return kicks. He obviously isn't a PR but a KR.

I dont understand why austin isnt returning. They had the same average last year, but it just seemed like austin was just one juke from busting it from the house everytime he returned it

I'm getting really close to wanting to see Stanback or Austin returning kicks instead of Tyson.
You're behind the rest of us about 5 weeks.

because Tyson Thompson seems disinterested in returning kicks...and truth be told..with the way miles austin covers kicks, i would give stanback a chance..he is obviously bigger, so the thought is he is more physical...miles gets tossed around like a rag doll

Maybe it's possible they had a package that he might be involved in that they originally planned on using but ended up not doing it?

I could see some funky tricked-up stuff using his QB skills / speed. The guy might not know exactly how to play wideout in the NFL yet, but that doesn't mean he has no use.

Something tells me we will see him sooner rather than later and when he does all the "bust" talk will go away.

I dont know why some people wanna be quick to call him a bust. Reality check not every draft pick adjust to the NFL right away especially a 4th round project (Key word project) making the switch from college QB to NFL WR. We're probably looking at a couple seasons to fully reap the benefits of that pick and our front office was obviously ok with that wait

Rookie receiver Isaiah Stanback replaced Henry on the 45-man game day roster for the first time Monday night, but Phillips said the fourth-round pick has continued to improve in practice. Stanback is transitioning from quarterback in college and is becoming harder for the first-team defense to cover in practice . .

Very encouraging news!!!

Great to hear that our starting defense has trouble covering Stanbach. Of course we could take that 2 ways but I prefer it to mean he's looking pretty good. I'm thinking injuries to so many other players allowed Phillips to activate Stanbach just so he can see up close and personal what it feels like on the sidelines in a real game, etc.

Maybe it means nothing that he was on the sidelines. But he also entirely possible his play at WR is improving to the point where we could get a chance to see him in action. I would be really surprised though if we'd bring in a young WR whose never played that position in a game to play against NE. On the other hand, if we having a good game against the Vikes next week, then it entirely possible Stanbach sees action.

I agree it could go two ways.....He could be beating them in coverage and dropping the passes.......I'm hoping that he's progressed under the radar and will be a secret weapon come Sunday

Why?

He can't play against first 5 teams and he'll be ready to play Pats?

I don't buy that one.

He has been learning the wide receiver position for the last five weeks.

He is fast. Sunday you may see him down field making the plays Terry Glenn could make if he were ready.

And nobody is trying to sell you anything.

:)
