when you can get Linebacker Deion Jones LSU in the third

6-foot-0 7/8, 221 pounds --

ran the 40-yard dash in 4.38 and 4.42 seconds (he'd posted the fourth-fastest 40 among linebackers at the NFL Scouting Combine). He did the 20-yard short shuttle in 4.26 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.13 seconds. He had a 35 1/2-inch vertical jump. Jones performed 18 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Jones had an off-the-charts workout. He was really smooth and quick in his positional drills, only slipped a couple of times possibly due to not having on the proper shoes.

STRENGTHS: Numbers don't do his play justice as the tape shows a highly active and instinctive linebacker with the athletic range to be a three-down player. Jones has above average reactive athleticism to trust what he sees, work off blocks and drive to his target to secure the tackle.

He also does a nice job in coverage with decisive, smooth strides to stick with tight ends, even lining up at cornerback on some snaps.

IN OUR VIEW: Jones, who also plays on special teams coverages, doesn't have any obvious flaws and is considered one of the smartest players on the team ? his NFL arrow is pointing north.

There hasn't been a player like him since Bo Jackson/Deion Sanders. He's a 2-way player....and a good one @ that...on both sides of the ball. When the Cowboys signed Morris...that just told me..we aren't gonna take the best player in the draft. There is no way I pass on Jack....unless Wentz makes it to our pick....Could happen...But I give it a 20% chance.

I'm a little concerned about his injury.

Compared to some of the other guys though, Jack is starting to look better and better

All depends on the knee but there's no doubt Jack is an elite talent. Top 3 defensive player in the draft. You're just not going to find many guys who are 240 and that athletic and skilled.

6' 1 220 is pretty damn small for a LB tho. Jones would probably have to play a hybrid role like Barron/Buchanan. Also, 4.38 is bold faced lie. Don't believe that for a second. With all that said, I do like Jones. He flies all over the field on tape, but size can't be ignored. If he's there in the 3rd he's worth looking at.

Jack is the kind of player you can build a whole defense around

According to Draft Insider's Tony Pauline, Jack wowed his onlookers at his Pro Day "Jack is a remarkable athlete... Jack looked like a defensive back doing linebacker drills."

What's it going to be then, eh?

Was not sold on him before and the fact he is still not going to run a full workout before the draft makes it worse.

So if he can't run before the draft, what happens at the rookie mini-camp? Can't practice in full then?

All from a meniscus tear?

But where are going to play Jack? He's not a MLB...he's not a thumper, more of an arm tackler and gets caught up in traffic...that's not his game.
His best position is WLB, so do you move Lee to the middle and McClain to the bench? Do you draft Jack at #4 to play him at the least important postion on the defense, Sam?

I see no way we draft Jack unless we move Lee back to MLB.

Don't think you can waste number 4 on a prospect like Jack.

That's the same as why waste a pick on Wentz when you can get Lynch or Dak.

Comparing a lb with a qb with the 4th overall pick isn't and shouldn't even be in the same sentence. Jack would help but not like drafting your long term solution at qb. Our defense this past year wasn't all that great, however the season wasnt lost because of that. However it was lost because of the qb's we had on the roster. We had piss poor replacements when romo went down.

Wentz is leaps and bounds ahead of lynch and dak. If that is the case why would anyone take ramsey within say the top 5 when you can draft a db in the third. Because the talent is better and you minimize having a wasted pick.

can he cover in slot?

Yes. He covers WRs like a corner, no exaggeration. As for taking him with the 4th, would rather trade down first to 7th, pick up extra 2nd and 3rd.

But Jack would immediately be the best MIKE, SAM, nickel backer and short yardage RB on the team.

I actually somewhat agree. To me, I rather have Deion Jones or Su'a Cravens in the 3rd then Jack number 4 overall. They aren't huge downgrades.

Love Debo, he'll be a really good NFL player. But as an LSU alum, I can tell you he is no Myles Jack.

I don't think you waste a pick on jack just not sure he's the right guy at 4. But you really can't compare the QB position to others.
My biggest issue with jack is where do you play him? Do you move Lee back inside? I also think lb is far from the spot that's going to improve this defense.

The Carson Wentz hype bug has now jumped to Jack fans. Great...

So Jack is already better than McClain (MIKE) and Lee (nickel)?

Yes. Jack is better than both in man coverage. Jack is also faster than either Lee or Ro, better sideline to sideline. Jack can also play a MIKE in a Tampa 2, which is not the best fit for Ro. Jack can play all 3 LB positions. Ro is best suited for the MIKE, while Lee can probably play all 3 but is not the quick twitch athlete.

Finally, Jack can also play RB, and at a high level. And unlike Wentz, Jack's level of competition is elite.

Jack is my 2nd favorite player in the draft behind Ramsey. You find a spot for a player like him. Heck he could even play SS IMO! We need elite athletes and he is one of a few in this draft.
