Why were we not blitzing on G men's last drive?

Why were we rush 4 when for the entire game we couldn't get a lick on Eli when we only rush 4?

Prevent only PREVENTED us from winning.

If we were going to let Eli convert on 3rd and long anyway..........Blitz the hell out of Eli and at least get a lick or two on him which may affect him the next play.

Doesn't Wade already know that our DBs can't cover for more than 4-5 sec and if pass rush doesn't get there G men will complete a pass? Blitz! damn it.

Watch Rex Ryan and the JETS?? They blitzed relentlessly during Pat's last drive and force Brady to pass before he was ready. That won the game. If JETS would have sat back, Brady would have picked them apart in that last drive.:bang2:

Our defense was exhausted on that final drive, there was no way 4 men was going to generate pressure.

But we didnt get pressure when we blitzed anyway, so Wade probably figured we might as well take our chances in coverage.

Our run defense was phenomenal. Our pass coverage was the complete opposite.

seriously, if Eli was going to complete a pass, I want him to pay for it. Send 5-7. Different blitz package?

Hello! YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.:banghead:

It was the LAST drive. Send in some fresh bodies and blitz on 3rd downs. We had them on 3rd and long I think at least twice. Common!:bang2:

No they didn't - and besides, blitzing Carpenter doesn't actually count as blitzing anyway - its more of politely opening up a underneath spot in a zone.

LOL@ the people blaming the defensive coordinator.

Wade has a proven track record of being one of the best defensive minds in the game.

Our guys just weren't getting there, and even when they were close, our corners weren't making many plays.

Hey you won't get an argument from me there... The game was a horrible team effort.

sorry, need to let the BP drop to normal.

The OL did a good job and outstanding RBs. Garrett should learn from this. RUN MORE! You don't have to have 50/50...it's OK to run 60% of the time.

I hate when defenses do that. The friggen Titans did that against the Steelers last week and that really irrated me as well.

The Cowboys weren't generating much pressure on Eli regardless of whether they blitzed or not. The Giants were picking up Cowboy blitzes with relative ease; consequently, they were only exposing the secondary, which wasn't covering very well anyway.

Wade can't go out on the field and actually execute for the players. His history as a defensive coordinator speaks for itself. If the defense is substandard, blame the talent, not Wade.

No 2nd guessing here because I had this thought at the start of the giants last drive.

There were a number of factors that lead me to believe we should have employed an unusual strategy for that last drive.

Play to the clock.

*We were getting little pressure throughout the game an none in the 4thQ.
*I had zero confidence our tired defense was going to make a play and stop on downs before they reached FG range.

We needed to force them to fail or score quickly. We should've sent 7 guys on every play. Make them hit a big play or two to move the ball.

I'm talking an extemely aggreessive defense with our 4 DBs playing tight and 7 guys going all out after Manning.

We had a 3 plus mins left and two time outs. We needed to dictate the way that time would be spent.

I don't care if we gave up a TD. Whatever the end result was going to be, we needed it to happen in 4-6 plays leaving romo 50-120 seconnds to counter.

We were not. But what's interesting is the few times we went all out (sent 6 or more guys), it worked. We got to him quickly and he rushed an incompletion.

That's what we needed to do from the start of that drive. Send 7 guys after Manning, 3 DB's tight on the WRs and perhaps one DB roaming 7 yards behind the LOS to pick up any 4th receiver releasing late.

This is the equivilant of a defensive hail mary pass. But I think the situation called for it.

If we had employed this technique, I'm certain the worse case senario would have been a TD and Romo trying to counter with 50 seconds and no timeouts down 6.

But understand that's probably the worst case. More liekly he's attempting to counter down 2, or down 6 with more time and a timeout.

We were blitzing in the 1st half and forced several incompletions on 3rd down. Why we didn't do that with the last drive is completely beyond me.

I kinda agree that if they are going to score, at least leave ourselves with time to counter. This is just poor coaching and not thinking through the options given how our D has been playing

I know. I have always believed that when a field goal will beat you, you must be aggressive. I know they were max protecting but we never tried any stunts or overloading one side of their line. I know Dick Lebeau and Rex Ryan would have stayed aggressive on that last drive.

It would have been better if they would have scored an easy TD with us blitzing on that last drive. At least then we would have had one last chance with the ball.
