I'm not.

At all.

Fair enough. I too wish we had better options. Heck I long for the days of a safety tandem of Thomas Everett and Darren Woodson but they aren't available. As an aside, I saw Woody some months ago at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel and he appeared in good enough shape to play!?! So what do you suggest as an alternative to letting those 3 slug it out? Do u have eyes on someone else available to throw into the mix?

To be fair. Heath does have some athletic ability to him. 4.48 40 and he did look better last year when he got some playing time on defense

Yes. I was actually pleasantly surprised on how Heath came on last year in his DB play and not just special teams. And I agree with you that he could be a better than average option at SS - he seems to have the mentality for it. I think he's the front runner in the competition from my standpoint baring any surprise signing of an FA, etc. Wilcox may have a light bulb moment this season after his past few years of learning on the fly, but he seems too mistake prone to be a long term option...a weakness that offenses will always exploit due to his over aggressiveness and complete lack of recognition. As I mentioned a move to SS may be his last best chance as a pro.

I was once a very big Church fan but it seems sadly that the injuries he's had have robbed him of a great deal of explosiveness - which wasn't a strong suit to begin with. He gets caught guessing a lot and flat footed. Seems like his body can't react as fast as his brain thinks it. His play has fallen off to the point that I would not mind seeing him released for cap reasons as well as to give some younger players a chance to step into a developmental roles.

Hopefully Jones' range, athleticism and game intelligence will raise the level of play of whoever starts at SS.

Obviously all speculation at this point. I'm sure it would make a lot of fans happy!

ESPN's Jean-Jacques Taylor believes Cowboys S J.J. Wilcox is on the roster bubble.

Wilcox has started 29 games the last two seasons, but he has struggled in run defense and has just four interceptions over that span. With Byron Jones moving to safety full time, Wilcox's days in the starting lineup are over, and his spot on the roster could be in danger as well. He is scheduled to earn $1.66 million in the final year of his rookie deal.

I would actually think Church would be more so on the bubble than Wilcox.

The concept of player development is beyond some.

Yes, I have seen lots of player development on the Cowboys. Some, like you, can and will wait for 20 years to see player development. Look at our defense. Some of them, it seems, we have been developing for 5 years.

But you, having little to do, have more patience than I.

How do you guys evaluate the safety group? I find it difficult to do so because they're often out of the screen, or you don't see them until they make a tackle downfield. Particularly Wilcox since he seems to play deep often.

I see a lot of strong opinions so I assume some method is being used.
