Wild card weekend tutorial on why elite coaching matters

That is not necessarily the truth.

Schotty doesn't coach the D, and didn't sign the players who are bad at tackling.
No the hc needs to see what the issue the team has. Like penaly, tackling, these are the issues he needs to demand his staff to address them.

Our players don't tackle because he buys them a ping pong table and takes them dancing instead of having a hard-nosed marine like Ernie Stautnerkick their freaking azz if they're not physical
Hey he tried hard to establish the ping pong culture!!!:laugh::laugh:, that is why other team 3rd string player playing better than our 1st team players.

by his own admission, schotty likes to show his players love after a loss. the cowboys locker room is a safe place.

Yep and McCaffrey put on a clinic as to how to adjust your body and catch the ball.

For all the wide receiver divas in the league that let the ball bounce off their hands.

That guy McCaffrey is a football player for real from the old school.
I’ll bet Lamb has dropped more balls in one game than McCaffrey has in his entire career.

Agreed
Definitely not and he is more arrogant and entitled than Jerry if that's possible.

Also I think he is even cheaper and not willing to take any chances I think he's more about the money than Jerry is.

I had to speculate I would say Steven doesn't even like football anymore other than the cash cow that it is for him
Agreed on all points. I esp agree that Stephen might be even more full of himself than Jerry and as you said, that's really saying something.

For me it can all be summed up in Jerry just giving the finger to generations of fans who remember the Cowboys being an organization built on excellence and top coaching talent as well as having a great scouting dept and of course a great GM. Jerry will continue to micromanage this organization to death and it will not change until they lower him into his gold crypt at the 50 yard line.

You're absolutely right. Jerry has taken over as head coach too, but his needs his yes man, puppet head coach to pay for Jerry's shortcomings when inevitably the results are predicably subpar. No head coach with any self-respect would agree to be under Jerry thumb 24x7 and it's hilarious when fans think we could land Robert Saleh for a def coordinator or a top shelf hc like McVay or John Harbaugh since they would laugh at the idea of handing in their man card to Jerry.

maybe not you...but many people on here boast about the cowboys 5 rings, why does green bay not get credit for super bowls 1 and 2?
i was only referring the time since 1995 which seems to be when history began on cowboyszone.com as in when they were "wildly more successful than we have been". I am more than happy to go back to the late 1960s because the Packers were basically crap from 1968 or so until the 1990s

gotcha bro  and yes the packers have had some incredibly good luck with QBs. Going from Favre to Rodgers is great luck.
I think the jury is still out on the guy they have now.

Agree that season after the Green Bay loss he completely sabotaged it I think that was just a spite trick to get McCarthy back for losing that game.
Almost like Jerry felt that McCarthy did not want to beat his former team or something because he purposely gave him absolutely nothing to work with and tanked the season.
This year though in spite of himself he did hit on a couple things with Pickens and javonte Williams that actually made part of the game tolerable to watch until the defense got on the field
My takeaways from these games were twofold:

1. There is an old adage that defense wins championships, and indeed, it does. Green Bay didn't have the defense to stop the Bears from mounting a comeback. The Bears were able to complete an impressive comeback despite two interceptions because it's defense finally figured out how to choke the Packers -- and because they took unnecessary risks in the final minutes.

While both the Bears and the Rams scored 30+ points, two of these games were very low scoring. Again, that speaks to defense.

2. I'm not ready to throw Schotty away, as our defense in both the secondary and linebacking corps was so feeble as to be essentially useless. I will withhold judgment against the HC until we have a robust defense. (If Jones every manages to build one...)

On a normal team, sure. This isn't even close to that.

Well said.

Shanahan should be near the top of the list for coach of the year when you look at the injuries they overcame.

Yep for sure the Cowboys locker room is a kinder gentler place and after all the participation trophies are given out and everybody gets padded on the back and feels good about themselves.

Us old school fans are still left in the same pile of crap frustrated and pissed off because these candy *** coaches we have now won't put the fear of God in these overpaid primadonna's

Landry and Ernie Stautner made them fear so did Jimmy
These business decision makers just work the system collect their paychecks and make sure they leave unscathed

Not even sure what makes me more pissed off now.

Watching our team underachieve and play mediocre uninspired football.

Or having to watch what great coaching can do with mediocre players
Watching them improvise and overcome with guys they've pulled off the street.

Look at the eagles now. Still very powerful defensively but that offensive coordinator just not as creative they just don't have it with him offensively. And because of offensive coaching they have slipped.

Coaching is such a powerful weapon that our owner and GM fails to utilize.
It is an absolute sacrilege when there is no salary cap on it and we could have the absolute best coaching staff money could buy.

We are continually saddled with substandard washed up past their prime Yes Men who just want to collect a paycheck and kiss Jerry's behind.
The coaches we got are just happy to be employed they don't care about winning a Super bowl.

Look at Mike Vrable and Ben Johnson we should have one of those guys or both.
Spot on!!!

Coaching matters a lot.
Philly got out coached big time. Philly’s offense is very basic and their defense was pretty basic too. Toward the end of the game the Whiners were starting to move the ball and Philly rarely mixed things up. They relied on their 4 man rush with very few blitz’s or stunts.

We need a coaching staff that is elite and embodies what the game is supposed to be about and that's winning a Super bowl.

Our main problem is we have an owner and GM that has developed a culture and reputation for being all about marketing money and the business side of the game.
He is now routinely talked about as a guy who's not interested in winning.

So as a result this organization attracts and enables coaches players and staff who have little desire to win a Super bowl and maximum priority to make the most money in the short window they have.

10% of all players in the NFL win a Super bowl the average career for an NFL player is about 3 years.

Players coaches staff all realize NFL stands for not for long and for 90% of the players winning a Super bowl does very little for building them security for later life.
Whereas extending their career a couple years does a lot for them.

Coaches same deal maybe to a lesser extent look at McCarthy admitted that he lied to Jerry just to get it the job.
This team attracts everybody who wants to minimize risk and get a Payday.
Very hard to attract coaches and players that want to win a Super bowl.
With Jerry as the owner and GM undermining the integrity of the whole game.
