Defensive tackle Vince Wilfork says he wants a long-term deal from the Patriots or he is ready to move on.

During a Wednesday radio interview with the Dale & Holley Show on WEEI, the free-agent-to-be voiced his feelings about possibly getting the franchise tag from New England.

“I want a long-term deal, or I want to be free. Point blank.” Wilfork said.

“Yeah, [the franchise tag is] decent money for most people out there. What I do, it’s OK,” Wilfork added. “But I don’t look at myself as an OK player. Like I said, it’s just basically a slap in my face and it’s insulting to me to tell me I’m an OK player.”

Wilfork, a first-round pick by the Patriots in 2004, just finished the final season of a six-year rookie deal.

“And now that deal is up, it’s time for me to move forward,” Wilfork said. “If that’s with the Patriots or without the Patriots.”

In six seasons, Wilfork has started 80 games for New England.

Why? He wants the security that a long term deal provides. Most players do. He never said what he considers "long term". Is that 3 years, 4 years or 8 years? He is not asking for a king's ransom or anything. At least not yet.

I'd love to have him on our D-line. but it won't happen so that's that.

he finished his contract and now wants security...nothing wrong with that....especially compared to the guys who want new deals halfway into their current deals

Igor money would be cool but I'm sure he values himself a tad more...

He's dirty and overrated. Pats let him walk I bet.

I doubt they let him walk.

They seem to get the better end of trades and stuff all the time.

They'll probably find some random team in Oakland willing to be the victim of an armed robbery.

Pats need to do whatever it takes to keep him, then get rid of unproductive players such as Adalius Thomas and draft a better pass rush. They have the DBs to break passes up, but the pass rush is horrid with the ends we have. Keep Wilfork, pick up Peppers, and draft the other DE
