Will 2014 be the lost season for you?

My expectations for the Cowboys haven't been high since Garrett took over. I didn't expect much from him as a HC or the team and 3 years later we haven't gotten much. I argued with many a FAN when Garrett took over that the Cowboys would go nowhere under him. He was under fire as the OC helping contribute to the teams 6-10 season in 2010. After 3 consecutive 8-8 seasons it's pretty clear with Garrett coming back the Cowboys will remain stuck in the mud until the bottom falls out in the next couple of seasons. The bottom falling out appears to be what Jerry is waiting for before setting his ego aside and making a head coaching change. Making a head coaching would be admitting he made a mistake and he's not about to do that until the team is no longer competitive entering week 17. The roster has had a makeover since Garrett took over including two top 10 picks and the team continues to spin it's wheels at 8-8 while teams like SF and Seattle have prospered and are competing for the SB under solid head coaches.

It's unfortunate the Cowboys are stuck with an owner who has such an ego he would rather lose his way than win someone else's way. Jerry has accomplished everything he ever wanted as an owner except for winning a championship his way. The more I listen to him and the yes man he calls a HC the more discouraged I get about the future of the team. As discouraged as Cowboys Nation is right now come free agency and the draft the wounds will begin to heal for a few FANS who will continue to spin optimism and pump sunshine while predicting big things for the 2014 season. All it takes for some is listening to Garrett say all the right things that he repeats over and over and the signing of a couple of mid tier free agents along with the draft to invigorate the hopes for a few for the upcoming season. This is going to be a very long offseason for a lot of us realists and maybe even a few FANS whose reality check finally arrived at the end of the 2013 season.

Not a lost season. I'm looking forward to it, as long as we've got a QB.

I do hope we see some better pass defense, though. And keep up the turnovers.

lost season, heck this season isn't over, whey worry about next year.
Yes I know it is over for the Cowboys and 27 other teams.

I will let you know at the end of next season if it was a total loss.

For the last several seasons, realistic or not, there has been plenty of preseason hype being thrown the Cowboys way. The media and most Cowboys fans had some pretty high expectations that this team could accomplish a lot. There have even been Super Bowl winner predictions coming from national media outlets as recent as last season.

As an average Joe Cowboys fan, I bought into the hype every year. Going into the season, I had myself convinced many times that this was the year. This "talented" team was going to make me proud.

Well, of course it really did not happen.

Now it is becoming pretty obvious that the coaching staff will be coming back mostly intact, the team is not in the best position to improve talent wise outside the draft, and Jerry will still be in charge.

For me, this may well be the first season in awhile, that my expectations for the Cowboys to do well is virtually nonexistent.

I am not really looking forward to the draft with the knowledge that there are too many holes in this team to fix in the draft unless they get really lucky.

I don't see the talent on def to make me think that they will not be a bottom feeder defense next year. I have little confidence that Garrett or Calahan can make this offense any less anemic. I worry about the health of Romo who seems to be aging very quickly.

But probably the biggest factor for me in thinking that next year is a lost season, is that certain players and the team as a whole are not nearly as talented as I really wanted to believe them to be. I always thought that the talent would overcome the poor coaching. I have finally come to the bitter realization, that the talent level of this team is average at best and that paired with bad coaching leaves little hope going into next year.

I thought it would be, but now I am excited to see a coaching staff get everything out of an offense and defense and turn a team around. Just need to find a QB, of course I mean the Vikings. I am excited to see how Zimmer and Norv do in Minny.

Great post. Yep. I can see clearly now the reign is gone.... What little reign potential there was.....It's going to be a bright sunny day when a bunch of lockers and offices get cleaned out. But not before then, and not anytime in the near future do I see a playoff team forming.

It's true that it's hard to predict anything in the NFL these days.

Despite it all, I know that Jason Garrett will never win a Super Bowl as a head coach. The job is just too much for him and he has no clue as to how to prepare and sustain a winning team consistently.

We won't win next year. We won't even come close and hopefully the search for a new and hopefully viable head coach will begin.

Here's to hoping Jerry gets lucky like he did with Jimmy and Bill and lucks into getting someone of that caliber in here.......which is doubtful.

Welcome to reality......Your only about 5 years too late. But it's OK. Your not alone. Jerry has sold many people this lemon before.

Th Cowboys could trot out Campo with Colt McCoy at quaterback and this exact same defense and I'd still run around town boasting about my team and how the niners and the rest of the NFC East suck.

Already is.

My first step was canceling Sunday ticket and directv. Did that Friday.

Not giving up my tickets but seeing this group of coaches and front office actually makes me not excited for the next season for the first time since going into the 01 season.

I fully expect to win 5 maybe 6 games. And if that's the case, I hope the whole season tanks......

I want an entire new model. Maybe when JJ sees a 3 win season, he will bring a big name coach in and not meddle as much......???? One can dream, huh???

You're going to dream of a lost season and getting a new coach? I'm going to dream I win the lottery, continue to be happy, get younger as the days pass, climb Kilimanjaro, and watch the Cowboys win the SB just for starters.

When you keep rolling out the same team with a couple new faces year after year, how can one be excited? I don't care about the draft, the mini camps, pre seaon, let's just fast forward to next season.

A lot off your chest there..

..you should be feeling much better when you see many will agree with your points.

The part about Romo needs some enhancement.

I was a young fan when Staubach came. He had served his 4 year hitch in the Navy and still picked up a team that had just lost a close SB the year before.

Like Staubach, Romo had to wait 4 years before Bledsoe was stepped down. Romo has now gone on to play 7 more seasons..that's a total of going on Eleven Seasons !

Romo has surely not had the defense Staubach had early on..

But my point is..after 11 seasons in the NFL..Romo has not accomplished much.

And now..he's got back surgery issues on top of all of that.

I can never recall, in seeing 45 seasons of NFL football.

..where an NFL QB ever has come back to win SBs after anything so serious.

Now maybe Manning this season if he's lucky..

So..

the overall situation is just.completely neglected.

And they are not vigilent in the Franchise they have been entrusted with.

It won't be a lost season because we'll get young players some good reps and experience but with Garrett at the helm we should be looking at yet another mediocre season.
I'd love to be wrong but I don't see it, hopefully next year we get a real HC and maybe we can be a better team in 2015.
