Man, I tell you aren't we some fair weather fans. We were ready to ship T-New last year after his down year and look at his turn around. Now JJ gets injured, (High ankle sprains do take awhile to heal) and everyone wants to bail. I trust in Parcells' judgment. I believe he backs JJ and will continue to hand him the ball.

I know many folks get favorite players in their heads and sometimes can not let go, but the thing about having BOTH JJ and Barber is that we have two very good backs IMO. I personally do not care who starts at this point....go with the hot hand. I'm not convinced JJ is 100% either. I've got last years Gints game taped and he was unreal! The kid has talent. Glad to have both right now!

i think with flozell and a possible o-linemen pick-up in the offseason, would allow jj to returned to his old form.

Haters? Not at all I like JJ but even I relize he is not having a good season and it is also clear that when Barber gets his shots he is making the most of it. According to Drew Pearson he thinks Jones is still having some problems with the ankle injury. I don't know if that is the case or not but as much as I may like Jones I like the Cowboys even more and if Barber can continue to run like he did aginst KC then I want to see him get the main portions of the carries.

I agree. Go with the hot hand. We have 3 important games to go so who ever is getting the job done needs to keep being fed the ball.

I am glad they are both on the team. There were some that were ready to run Marion out of Dallas in the pre-season. Both are going to be need the rest of this season and hopefully for several more seasons to come.

Count me as one who was having doubts during the pre-season. Barber looked lost and was not hanging on to the ball. I loved it when we drafted him, started to have doubts and now I'm damn glad he is putting my doubts to rest.

Good post. I'm SICK of reading the "cut JJ" "trade JJ" "JJ blows" crap on this board and the other. JJ is a VERY talented back. Can you deny it? Talent like that does not just disappear. He has been HURT and there may very well be some over-coaching issues we are not aware of. But he is - when healthy - more explosive than Barber and faster.

The other thing no one seems to consider - and this was discussed by EMMIT SMITH - is that teams gameplan for the starting back. They do not game plan heavily for the change up back. Hambrick looked all-world filling in for Smith - what happened the next year when he started? Barber is MUCH more talented than Hambrick and an asset to our team. I hope he has a role here for a long time. My point is, there is a difference when a team is keying in on you and your style specifically versus a change-of-pace or part-time back.

I like Julius don't get me wrong. But he seems to lack the vision and cutback he had last year. And he looks timid when trying to run through the hole, and most times that hole has already been plugged up.

I am not ready to give up on him. I didn't give up on Terrance last year and turned out to be ok. Julius could be suffering from the 2nd year slump and may not be 100 percent healty and trying to much since Barber has had some success running the ball this year.

Maybe an offseason and maybe trim some of that bulk might do him some wonders next year. I know he has what it takes because he looked awesome last year and sparked this offense when it basically was flatlined.

JJ is obviously still in some pain. As the poster said earlier, high ankle sprains take a while to heal. Hell, they can end your career. I damn sure don't want him traded or cut.

No need to under-estimate Barber though either. Having both these guys is a benifet to the team and if by some chance Barber ends up with the better career what does it matter? Some act as if you say something positive about Barber that some how you must hate Jones. I like them both but neither has been around long enough in the NFL to know exactly who the better back may end up being in the long run.

The point is the vitriolic attacks which have been aimed at JJ and the fickle nature of fans is ridiculous. As I said, I hope Barber has a role on this team for a long time. I just don't think he's anywhere near as talented as JJ. My opinion.

What have you done for me lately? What JJ did last year doesn't help us win games this year. Now, I'm not ready to go as far as trading, releasing, or otherwise him, but I think we need to put our best players on the field. And right now Barber is clearly the better player RIGHT NOW.

Pple are just seeing a more productive Barber then Jones. Its human nature to want to ride the hot hand. But the good thing is Parcells and Jones sees things from a different point of view.

I gotta admit, I see barber cut and miss pile up and then take out a saftey for 12 yards, then see Jones come in and run into a pile and fall down for a gain of 1 - even I wonder if we are playing the right back as the featured back sometimes. I still love Jones, but Barbers been all that and a bag of chips here lately. Jones cant even measure up to the pickle spear on the plate at this stage of the season. Barber is the better back at the moment. Overall, I dunno.

And you very well could be right but right now Barber is outplaying Jones be it due to injury or what ever and as far the future that will take care of itself by both players performance. I'm glad both guys are here.

very disappointed in JJ always being hurt. But I can tell that he is not 100%. I am glad that he is trying to tough through it, but especially at this point Barber is the superior back. I really dont trust JJ in pass blocking and short yardage. Hopefully next year JJ will be back to his old form, but I think Barber is much more complete (he can block make some big plays and get the tough yards). I think we need to use a duo next year, and hopefully JJ will run hard and have the same moves he did at the end of 2004. If JJ continues to get hurt, I am glad that we at least have Barber who doesnt have the speed to make the homeruns he can at least be reliable.

Julius Jones is the most overrated, over hyped, and over protected (by fans) player that I can remember.

The numbers don't lie . . .

Career 3.8 ypc average.

11 of 28 games missed due to injury, with his jockriders still claiming a bum ankle is holding him back.

Only 3 100 yard games, and those against weak run defenses.

2.5 ypc average against teams with a top 10 rush defense.

Everything points to him being an average (at best) running back. Thats the reality.

My problem with Julius this year are the same warning signs last year. That being a) He doesn't hit holes very decisively and b) He lets one guy bring him down way too often. How many times have you seen it this year where it looks like he's about to break a long one and is brought down by an ankle grab? If he can juke the guy out of his shoes, he's fine. But once contact is made he's not very effective at slipping tackles.

Its not just size and strenght, but also an immeasurable intangible of balance that you either have or you don't. That's what Emmitt had. He could take a clean shot, bounce off and keep on running while never losing his balance. Shaun Alexander has freakish balance as well. MB3 looks to have a bit of it. Julius gets tripped up by arm tackles way too often. He is exciting out in the open field, though.

Does this mean that the offensive line is actually playing well and it is all Jones' fault?
