Dolphins put Will Allen on IR, sign LB Kershaw
Davie, FL (Sports Network) -

The Miami Dolphins placed cornerback Will Allen on injured reserve and signed linebacker William Kershaw on Tuesday.
Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano announced on Monday that Allen suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during this past Sunday's game against New Orleans.

Allen was hurt during the third quarter of the 46-34 loss.
Allen, in his fourth season with the Dolphins and his ninth in the NFL, was leading the team with two interceptions. He had also notched 21 tackles, including 19 solo.

First-round draft pick Vontae Davis is likely to step into Allen's starting spot at left cornerback, giving the Dolphins two rookies at cornerback. Second-round pick Sean Smith is the starting right corner.

Allen, a first-round pick by the New York Giants in 2001 after a standout career at Syracuse, has 15 career interceptions.
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Kershaw was in camp with Miami this season before being released prior to the regular season. He played in just one game with the Dolphins in 2008.

The 25-year-old Kershaw was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chiefs in 2006. The Maryland product has played in just four regular season games and one playoff tilt during his NFL career.
