The mere fact that the Cowboys don't retire their jersey numbers entitles C-Mike to don #33. It's a no-brainer.

Entitles? Sure it was a possibility he could get the #33 jersey, but he is hardly entitled to it.

The Cowboys organization appears to differ in that assumption. He's definitely entitled as long as their policy of not retiring player numbers is intact. Unfortunately, the word "entitlement" has become a dirty one in Dallas due to the terrible attitudes of many in the past who haven't been willing to work. There have been a fair number of players who have been awarded prestigious numbers of the past and haven't fulfilled their former glory. There's no test to pass beforehand.

Yup... Players have worn #74 during preseason. Never carried over into regular season though.

Players that have worn #12

FromToAV
John Roach196419641
Roger Staubach19691979105
Ron Widby196819682

Due to the amount of players teams bring to camp #74 has been issued during the summer but not the #12 that's the most sacred Cowboys number.

I'm guessing if we had taken a 1st round graded RB, like McFadden when he was drafted, he would've worn the 33. It almost seems as though it's a blessing bestowed by the organization that reflects the talent and potential they see in you. Dez, here's 88. Go play like Drew and Michael and cement your own legacy.
