I keep seeing the same debates in various Dak threads so I thought I'd put it to a vote.

This poll ends before the 1st game. We are weighing in on the data in front of us right now--which is a broke back Romo and a pre-season Dak.

I think pretty much all of us like Dak and are excited about the future. Some may question if he is fully ready or better than Romo when healthy, but most like him a lot.

Plenty of us like Romo too. But since he has been around so long there has been plenty of time for him to accumulate detractors too. Many have been praying for him to go for years.
others may like him but think it's now time to turn over the reigns

I'm just curious how this will unfold and what a poll would look like before it does in 2016 and 2017.

I'm well aware that "Jerry speak" and "Garrett speak" are recieved and interpreted differently amongst posters here. However, I think they have made it clear Tony is the starter barring injury or retirement. He's not losing his job.

If we were managed by a competent GM, I would say that we never look back.

But I think the better question is............................

What does our record have to be after say.....................8 games in order for Dak to remain the starter?

Still tough.

Is that what you want?

Hard to say with the Jones's at the helm(I still remember when Jones gave Aikman that extension in 1999. And he couldn't play anymore, Romo CAN still play). In a normally run organization, Romo gone!

Depends how he's playing. If he's lighting it up, probably. If he's just showing promise, then no.

Romo is the starter, will be the starter and NEEDS to be the starter. He is the far superior QB at this point. I think DAK while impressive so far will be set up for failure if he is the starting QB from now on. He needs to learn. The very best case scenario is that Romo play this year and next and then retire. Give Dak the mental side of the game to match his physical tools and we could have something. At this point, I don't see more than 7 wins with Dak at QB full time. I think if Romo is the QB we win at least 11. So We need Dak to get us 2-3 wins before Tony takes back over.

Yes, you have to make some sort of assumption to a degree to make a vote. That's why I said poll closes < game 1.

What is more likely?

A. Romo staying healthy and taking us to a championship
B. Dak turning out to be a hell of a QB and taking us to the playoffs

Pick one.

Then my guess is no. Even though I firmly think he is the future franchise QB, he's going to have to really be showing something to dethrone Romo this season. Now NEXT season is a whole different ball of wax. lol

So you would be option #2.
Romo returns after his injury and then next year Dak takes over as starter.

This year? A. I think Dak has promise. I think he can be good. And right now, I am rooting like all get out he is good, cuz that would be good for the Boys. However, in the realm of playing QB, Tony is a top 7 Qb. You can't replace his experience and game with a Rookie, not any rookie. So for the good of the team both short term and long term, I am going to go with Romo all day, every day.

I seriously can't believe that people are still living under the delusion that Romo has even a year of effective play left in his body. What has to happen to make you see that it is over? Romo deserves our utmost respect for what he's given this team. It's over though, let's check out Dak.

There are a lot delusional fans out here. If Dak comes in and win 6 out of 8 games, no way.

schedule so for the first 8.

Giants- W
Skins-W
Bears-W
49ers-W
Bengals ?
Packers ?
Eagles ?
Browns ?

I see 4 wins so far. Dak will have to pull out another 2 in my book.

Why?

They aren't apples and apples and the team and coaches are playing for this year.
The question for the COWBOYS--because their expectations are at the very least the playoffs--is how do they maximize the results in the 2016 season?

If it was Cleveland, that question could maybe be more apples and oranges...assuming the hope is not high for 2016.
A bad team could ask something like, what's better an old vet carrying us to 7-9 or a promising
Rook taking his lumps, getting us to 5-11 but setting the table for later.

That is not what Dallas is thinking, imo. They want playoffs or more. Right or wrong--and it's debatable--they see 2014 with an even slightly better team...so top limit of a Super Bowl, lower end sneaking into he playoffs.
Right or wrong.

Romo is incredible. Dak looks good, but the likelihood of him to being incredible in the first 2 years is still very low.

Fair enough. But you are talking about a 100% healthy Romo in his prime. What will it take for you to realize that Romo isnt that guy anymore?
