Just read a posting on the Ranch Report that supposedly Jamie Dukes of NFN network said the Cowboys will franchise Flozel. NFI available. FYI: Didn't the Cowboys briefly franchise Flozel in 03 and it was removed and he signed to a new contract at Parcell's insistence? I hope this means we will try work out a contract with him cause the cap hit supposedly as a franchise player would be around $9M which leaves us little money to go after any FAs except our own.

Now last week I stated that a Ranch Report posting said that MBIII signing would be announced next day. That wasn't true so take above tidbit with a cup of salt.

Dukes seemed convinced when he asked him but Flozel appears to want the $$$.

Are you talking about Dukes questioning him?

Flozell Adams gets the franchise tag per NFL Network...

Interesting. Gives guys like Free and McQuistan or a draft pick time to develop.

I didn't expect that.

I guess that makes free agent activity (in terms of a large splash) very unlikely?

Cool. We get to watch more false start penalties. Will Jerry give him a 5 year deal like Larry Allen when he was finished ??:bang2: :bang2:

Gives them a window to negotiate. At least now we know the Cowboys are interested in keeping Flo. They could always pull the tag, but Jerry doesn't tag guys just for the heck of it. Who's gotten the tag in Cowboys history? Flo, then he resigned and i think Mike got the Transition if i remember.

I don't think it's terrible to have one of the best tackles in football around for one more year while we make sure we've got the LT of the future on the roster.

It's unexpected, but not terrible.

I think they'll try to re-sign him to a 3 or 4 year deal instead. He can get more money in the end and it can be a much softer cap hit for Dallas, so both sides would win.

That being said, I think it's imperative that they re-sign him and hopefully Jerry thinks that way as well. Flo may only want to play 1 more year and thus franchising him may be the only way to get him back.

What this means is the LT's we drafted last year are a bust.

Give Flozell a big $$$$, you are gonna get a very lazy fat LT.

You wanna give an aging LT w/ weight issues a long term, lucrative deal ??

That's how i remember it, and Mike Irvin got the trans. tag before resigning if i remember correctly.

I think the number is closer to 7.5 mill right now.

That's a pretty foolish thing to say.

We've given him a one year contract. That's plenty of motivation for him to play hard, to earn a big contract from us or someone else at the end of next season.

You don't give an aging Lineman a long-term deal. See Larry Allen.
