Will linebacker be our Achilles heel in 2014?

The problem here is success for the whole LB corp is predicating on hoping Sean Lee can remain healthy.

Special emphasis on "hope".

Sean Lee is a coach killing type of player. A player so good, so talented that you want to build your entire defense around him.... however, unable to stay on the field and therefore the lynchpin for the defense can't reliably be counted on.

Not sure what they should do about it.

Perfect reason why we should trade down if Donald isn't there -- with this deep draft, we can easily grab an impact LB with the extra pick.

Yes, this has been my thoughts all off season, trade down, get in any order with first 4 picks in 3 rounds.
DL, DL, LB, S or an OG if BPA with a 3rd round pick. We should get 4 players that can contribute right away, and if 2 are starters, that will be great.

DraftScouts ranks Telvin Smith at 85.
If he's there for us in the 3rd (pick 78) I'd be up for that.

Its not if Lee stays healthy, so it probably will be.

Yes and his name specifically is Sean Lee

His inevitable injury will result in practice squad guys being thrown to the wolves.

We need a LB in the draft. I dare say that LB is a more urgent need than DL after watching the carousel of LBs that were on the field last year.

If CJ Mosely, Barr, or god willing, Mack are there when we pick, then I say grab them even if Donald or Jernnigan are available.

If Mack is there at 16 then it will be like a six year old girl (or boy) waking up to Santa Claus

Totally agree and as soon as Lee went down not only did the linebackers go down the safeties did too.

I hated writing this post but it seems like a trend. If we Draft 2 linemen in the 1st 3 rounds and don't get a lb and Lee And carter go down where will we be?

Can people stop assuming Mack/Barr would come in here and play LB?

Seriously, learn the team already.

Could be LB, but also QB. Weeden will play after Tony and Kyle are down....

Why would anyone be shocked if Durant is on the team? He's a solid player who did his job when he was in the lineup. Cutting him would save $1.25M so I'm pretty sure if there was any doubt he's going to be on the roster he would be gone already.

We really need Lee to avoid the major injury, we can survive even if he needs a week or 2 break. Anymore would be rough though.

However, Carter is the biggest wildcard. Sadly I'm hoping he's just not football smart and failed to pick up the D last year. If that is the case his 2nd year in the system should be much better. If not, yeah we could be in trouble if we don't grab a LB with coverage skills in the 1st 3 rounds.

^^^^^^^ Don't get mad because you could predict the downfall of this team. Right down to the position.

No more than safety. I expect the middle of the field to be a black hole on pass defense this year as usual.

Predicting that Sean Lee would get hurt is like predicting Kenny will die. Not that impressive.

True and I was being snarky by bring this thread back but if we have 3 more linebackers go out anytime this season will be sad but prove I was right
