I'm not juck but I will take a stab.
Matt Cassell is an 11 year Vet who has been on a few teams and has learned his share of offensive playbooks. I trust the coaches can simplify enough plays if this is what needed. It may not be needed. The terminology may not differ that much and the learning curve may be short.
Matt Cassell has thrown for 3000 yards 3 seasons, been named to a probowl and led 2 teams to the playoffs. He has shown the ability to function as an NFL QB in every aspect of the game. Not just the dump offs and middle of the field TE passes.
The defense pooped the bed today no doubt. This is a copy cat league and coaches will make you beat them with what you are the worst at. But the defense being bad does not in any way make the one dimensional QB play any less relevant or damaging. Each area of concern needs addressing. It's a little unfair to the OP to make the assumption he focused on only 1 guy because he wanted to talk about a QB change.
A question back to you. What makes you think Weeden would do any better against the next few teams than he did in the second half vs the Falcons? The same effective defense that completely shut down Weeden and the offense in the second half will be used again. This was the same strategy the Cardinals used last year to make Weeds look completely awful. It became obvious when watching some post game interviews that it wasn't the coaches that told Weeden to not throw down field. I'm afraid it's his choosing. At this level you can't be one dimensional. What has Weeden shown you that makes you believe he is a better option than a QB that has a lifetime QB rating of 80 and has led 2 teams to the playoffs?
Credit where credit is due: well written and thought out response. I enjoyed reading that.
I shall try to do you the same justice, as I am unfortunately rather impaired at this second and will be shooting from the hip, to be fair...
Cassell, with a simplified offense is just as impaired when you factor in his unfamiliarity with the line and his skill players.
It's a recipe for INT's, especially with these scrub starting WR's and that's the last thing this team needs.
Weeden had a great first half. He drove the bus as well as you could want, except for one boneheaded play... But all QB's make boneheaded plays! Sometime they get away with it, sometimes they don't.
Things really changed in the 2nd, from the very first play but you can't take away the 1st half from Weeden.
And, the first play on Offense was in the 2nd half was Randle losing yardage on a run.
Then Free commits a penalty.
Does Romo just get us out of a 3rd and what was it? 18?
Come on.
Like any other QB, Weeden doesn't control what his WR's are doing, like getting open and he can't control how well his line performs.
Is he Romo?
I laugh at that.
But I would give him one more week- at least to give Cassell one more week to acclimate himself into this team before calling it a day.
Or we can be like the Commanders and change things like coaches and players and GM's from day to day.
That's a recipe for success.
Yes.. I just engaged in hyperbole with the Skins reference.
Or did I? When it comes to fan mentality...
